D reissue "drone" options
D reissue "drone" options
feeding +5v into the "gate" input on the back, keeps the oscillators running and works great for drones
it's a bit of a pain to always plug an external device in, to supply the +5v. Also if I bring the minimoog somewhere it's more crap to haul
So I was thinking, in order of least invasive options:
1. reading the manual, it says the OSC, VEL, FILTER external control jacks all supply +5v on the ring, to power expression pedals. So it should be possible to build a TRS-->TS cable that could feed +5v into the gate (?). Although it says it's current limited. which is probably a good thing. So all you need to do is plug that cable between them...disadvantage is, you lose a controller input on the D
2. drill a 1/4" hole in the back and wire it to +5v. So you could use any 1/4" cable, and also keep the external control jacks free
3. install a proper switch on the front. Lots of room, say over the headphone jack. It would look great if done with a matching Moog style switch. But square holes are a pain, and am not keen on modding the front of the unit
Anyone else have any thoughts? Is there another option, that could be easier, or less invasive?
thx

Re: D reissue "drone" options
I guess there is always option
2a. install switch on the back
although it may be useful to have a +5v tap, in the form of a jack instead

Re: D reissue "drone" options
You may solder a special cable with a TRS into the Moog pedal in, a 1:1 connected female TRS socket for a pedal and another cable going into the Gate In with +5 V of the pedal socket. So you do not loose the pedal connectivity and don't have to modify your Minimoog Reissue. And if you like, put a switch in the cable to the Gate IN for switching the drone on/off without undoing and redoing a cable.
keep on turning these Moog knobs
Sequence:
Prodigy * minimoog '79 * Voyager * MF102 * MF103 * MF104z * MP201 * Taurus 3 * Minitaur * Sub Phatty * MF105 * Minimoog 2017+ MUSE * One 16

Re: D reissue "drone" options
hey, that is an even better idea!!
thanks Till!
*edit* actually even slicker would be to make two male-to-female 1/4" jacks, plugged into the GATE and OSC, connected with a switch that feeds the +5v to the GATE. Then you could switch it on/off, and still use the GATE and OSC jacks as usual. Just leave the thing on there
if it's low profile enough, you could even close the lid flat

Re: D reissue "drone" options
hmm I guess no one makes anything like that...I was thinking something like this right angle TRS, with a "through" female connection if you plug straight in

*edit* I can't seem to find a stackable TRS connector, similar to the Buchla stackable jacks, either. Oh well, easy enough to just use cables

Send a midi note on message without a midi note off message. I knew that one day those old versions of various software would be valuable.

Back in the day, for some of my synths, I used to use golf tees to hold down a particular key or set of keys.
Works great, easy to apply, easy to remove, easy to change.

I do the same with the half of a clothes pin
Toxic Overdrive | Minkovski | DNOT | Maetherial | Folie à 6
Re: D reissue "drone" options
ha, I suppose golf tee/clothespin/weight works as well. Or as Keith Emerson famously used, daggers
advantage of using gate: you can transpose by just hitting whatever key you want to be in
thanks for the suggestions, all
