I have contacted Adam Pryor in tech support about this because mine straight out of the box new had this issue.

We verified that Firmware version 1.8 was in the unit successfully and even reloaded it successfully without any change to the issue.

My particular symptom was I had a sub oscillator clicking noise after I initiated the function and pressed a key, not no sound completely like some of you have stated. I then had no Oscillator control after that either.

Here is a video clip I sent to tech support demonstrating the problem I had with my unit: https://youtu.be/qr6H9NN_DJY

They had a unit on the bench that did exactly the same thing. As of now, all we can do as Minimoog Reissue Owner's, is wait for the next version of Firmware that will fix this problem and upload it when it is available if you want this turn on function to work.

If you have a minimoog reissue to where this function works, then you are lucky. I will keep all of you posted via this forum if the next firmware version works as I will be receiving Beta test versions to see if it will work in my unit.

There is note need: this lets you pick which note pitch is heard when all the more then one key is pushed down. Unique Minimoog utilized low note need: dependably the most reduced played key was utilized for the pitch data.

Trigger modes: There are Single trigger and various trigger. The principal will possibly restart the envelope when every held note is discharged. This is the way the first Minimoog used to trigger the envelopes. This mode is expected to play legato (changing the note pitch without another note enunciation).

The various trigger will dependably begin another note when another key is squeezed. You can't play legato in this mode.

I'm disappointed to learn this is a common problem.

Mine also is not able to give me the 'Keyboard Error' option.
Something I feel is a must have .

It seems early production they had it and later it was missed off ..I'm unable to check which firmware I have
but my Minimoog Model D is showing passed QC July 2017

Presume 1.8

Actually considering selling mine as the factory don't seem interested :x

Anyone able to update and get it working ?

You can check the firmware version via SysEx
From the manual:

Code: Select all

TRANSMIT FIRMWARE VERSION
   F0 04 15 7F 15 00 00 00 F7
   (Hardware will output the following:
   F07E 7F 06 02 04 00 15 00 01 00 00 [v_min][v_maj] F7
Where v_maj is major version number and v_min is minor version number)
So send this SysEx command to the Minimoog while you record/monitor its output:
F0 04 15 7F 15 00 00 00 F7

And your Minimoog will respond with
F0 7E 7F 06 02 04 00 15 00 01 00 00 [v_min][v_maj] F7

If its actually
F0 7E 7F 06 02 04 00 15 00 01 00 00 08 01 F7
you are on version 1.8

I am using a MacOS, therefor I use SysEx Librarian to send SysEx files.
And MIDI Monitor to record the ingoing SysEx string.
Both software apps are free.

I put the needed tiny SysEx file here (in case you can't create them yourself)

has anyone tried installing an older firmware, prior to 1.8, to see if that restores the function?

Hey Paul,

I'm sorry I don't have better info for you. The problem is within the firmware and is a known issue that affected Model D reissues across the entire serial range. Tuning-error mode is stored digitally on the key scan card. However, replacing the key scan card has proven to be unsuccessful. Oddly, there are some units that are able to power up in tuning-error mode. There's a small chance that a firmware reload will resolve the issue for you but I'm doubtful. Let me know if there are any other questions that you have.

Best,
Jared

Thank You Till.

I will look into this, will need a cable.
I don't use software or midi.

I'm wondering if the previous firmware may give me the option for Keyboard Error.

What did the latest update give you over the previous ?

yes, that is the first thing I would try

does Moog have a changelog documenting the updates, between firmware versions?

that is normal in most industries

From the 1.8 change log:
New in 1.8.0
• Prior to 1.8, when using your Minimoog Model-D as a midi controller, pitch wheel data was offset from the original note value. 1.8 fixes this issue.

Do you think music industry is "normal"?
Many synth manufacture give no, incomplete or even wrong change logs with their updates. Luckily, there was a change log for the 1.8 Minimoog Reissue firmware. But I got no older version and their change logs here.

I had another reply from Moog.

They basically told me I should be grateful I have no hard wear issues !

They are aware of the Keyboard Error issue but being a small company and currently busy on new projects have no time to deal with the Keyboard Error problem on the Re Issue Model D.

Hi Paul,

I understand your concerns, but we are a small company and do not have engineering resources to devote to the Model D firmware at this time. We will in all likelihood release a firmware update to the Model D, but our firmware teams have their hands full with instruments currently in production.

The Model D Reissue functions very well as just that: a reissue of the classic Minimoog Model D, and I am not aware of any returns for this issue. I hear your frustration, but hope you can at least take some solace in the fact that you are not experiencing a hardware failure in your instrument.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

So this answer from Moog is about the same the Taurus 3 users received when asking for a bug free firmware. And guess what: it was due to the Minitaur needeing full attention. but right after this, we would get the update. And nothing happened. For several years! Still waiting.
