Years ago I saw a picture of a Voyager in a rosewood case. That looked PURTY.

"The Model D is only made with 1 option for the wood. There are no customs workings with the Model D. We are keeping it as close to the original as possible."

funny as all of the "originals" ive ever seen are a much darker color. And i suspect a different wood type as well. eg Ash instead of Oak. Maybe im wrong.

has anyone from Moog confirmed that they are using the same wood type as the "originals" were made from? if they are going to sound pedantic then i hope its for a reason!

Well, I didn't want to argue with them since they said they won't do it but on the other hand the re-issue is not as close as possible to the original given the fact that it has MIDI, the extra inputs/outputs, the extra LFO and some other things here and there.

Plus if the type of wood is different (not to mention the colour), then it seems to me that their argument is pretty much non-existent. Anyway, funny thing is that I know that they have made some custom-made Voyagers in the past (maybe other devices, too?) so I really don't see why it's such a fuss for them to provide a few wood/stain options. It's not like I am asking for a totally redesigned electronic circuit.

They used different woods over the production era. First ones used walnut. I don't remember what the later ones used but they were stained to look like walnut.

The webpage with the reissue does specify a "locally-sourced Appalachian hard-wood enclosure" for the case. I can identify hardwoods by the grain, but I can't find a high resolution image with a good look at the wood grain.

A walnut minimoog model D is being advertised by SweetWater music.
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... ed-edition
Notice that the 2 pictures do not match--they are of different machines.

Surprisingly this option is not on mentioned on the Moog product site.
I would still want to see an actual picture of the unit before a purchase...see my previous post in this thread.

I have sent them many emails asking for a customization and willing to pay for it, only to be met, each and every time with the same cliche reply... That they wanted to keep the design as close to the original as possible (as if all the additions they have made have anything to do with original model D and a custom wood would ruin it).

Now I see this walnut model D, which looks better than the original. I have already bought my D and I'm very happy with it but I don't like the way Moog does business.

All the above can be modulated accordingly, depending on whether or not that walnut D comes from Moog and it's not some custom third party modification.

The new Limited Edition Walnut Moog Minimoog Model D being offered on Sweetwater.com is directly from Moog, not a custom third-party modification. It's a limited run, I just pre-ordered one from Sweetwater and my rep said they will begin shipping in April. He also said they aren't getting that many of these units so if you want one I suggest jumping on it now. I just bought one three weeks ago and I'm exchanging it for the limited edition walnut. In my opinion, the walnut looks so much nicer than whatever wood they were originally offering. Hope this helps some people out.

Well now it seems that 1) Sweetwater doesn't have an exclusive on the Walnut Edition, 2) Moog plans a production run of 250, based on pics of people's warranty cards, not exactly "limited" per se, and 3) the price of the Walnut unit has dropped to $2999, even lower than the regular "discontinued" unit. Where have I heard this before?

I am very happy with my Reissue purchased last year, but would have loved to have had the option of getting the Walnut case. Can't really afford a second Minimoog right now...

Buy the walnut one, sell the other one?

the Walnut one looks more like the picture in my head of what a "minimoog" should look like color-wise! I always thought my minimoog re-issue looked too pale/light colored. But i do like it, the wood grain on mine is particularly consistent & neat without any crazy knots or swirls in wierd places to mess with my OCD. It was a crap-shoot really you kinda get what youre given but i did open the box up in the shop and pull it out before i left the place to just make sure there was no crazy wood pattern going on or damage.

Id say if you want a walnut then purchase a 3rd party case from that guy on Ebay that makes them to the color you want and convert your own unit across rather than buy a second one. Unless youve got the money of course then go right ahead but its a big purchase...if you can afford to buy a second one then put the first in the attic as an investment its price will rise thats for sure (even with the Boog or anything else they try and make)

That wouldn't work, because I really would end up keeping both!

It is nitpicking, but my original (circa 1975, SN 6450-ish) Minimoog had a clean, but darker stain than my current Reissue. But having the Reissue to replace my long-lost original is really a dream come true.

Have seen all kind of cabinets to the Minimoog (unfortunately not to Model D ReIssue), but never a transparent one (like George Duke’s old Clavinet in plexiglass case).

Beside that I agree, the color of the woodwork of the new Model D is not not my favorite cabinet color (I like darker color) but it’s still gorgeous - I love it! I
