Model D dust cover with panel still up?

Post by captainkidd » Fri Sep 02, 2016 12:08 am

I just acquired a new re-issued Model D. Obviously the original Model D's been around for 30 years so there have probably been 100's of different dust cover designs made. With that said I am curious if there is one available that would facilitate the control panel still being propped up? All the ones I've come across all require that you tilt the control panel back down flat. I know it's not a huge effort to do so but I would rather keep it propped up and not have to tilt it back down every night when I am done knobbing.

Currently I just have a big towel that I drape over it which works fine and that as one poster does is just buy a cheap black towel at like Walmart or something and I could just do that. But I would kind of like something a little nicer than that.

A towel will not stop dust. In fact, it will attract it and every time you handle it, it will spread it around the room. Buy a cheap shower curtain from the dollar store and cut it to size to drape over the machine. you don't want it tight and form fitting as it can form condensation in some climates. (I made my own dust covers from various materials for everything in my studio. Nice to have an industrial sewing machine)
