Select/EB - Black LCD cover / faceplate?

Post by LeChuck » Sat May 21, 2016 2:02 am

Couldn't find a thread about this already - I've noticed some Electric Blue and Select specimens have a black cover / faceplate around the LCD, instead of the usual white one. It looks official since it passes the backlighting through and has the "minimoog" name. Example - http://lghttp.50970.nexcesscdn.net/8029 ... bundle.jpg

Anyone know how/why some have these? Is there a way to buy one of these and swap it in? I personally think the all black control panel looks better, so would be interested in swapping (not even sure what it's called, pretty difficult to search for).

You might consider getting source files from Moog or measuring up the original plastic part, then getting your own cut from one of the laser services like Ponoko or Formulor. You could do infill engraving or leave it blank. I bet the design is very simple and would be very quick and cheap to do.

Yep I could probably homebrew something, but realistically it would take me forever (I collect side projects like pocket lint). I'm more interested to know where these came from, and if I can order one from Moog to swap out. I sent them a support email, but no response yet.

I do notice all of the ones I've seen that have this also have the 'EST. 2002' badge. But I've also seen brand new ones that don't have it .. so not sure if this was a design change, custom / limited, factory mod, or what. Any info would help
