Request for new OS

I think it's about time we had a new OS with features such as:

1. In the Pot Mapping, a variable amount from 0 - 100% and not just the fixed values 0, 25, 50, 100
2. Separate PWM per VCO (I don't think it's possible - but it never hurts to ask).
3. A "Shift" function to fine-tune the VCOs.
4. A new bank of sounds.

Share here what would like to have.

An arpeggiator and/or step sequencer would be yummy

Yes, an arpeggiator (even a simple one) is sorely missed.

not enough room in the software apparently.Amos addressed this awhile ago.

I actually came on here too post a question about the pot mapping. I would be happy even to have 75% available but variable would obviously be top choice

I have talked to moog techs a couple of times about having waveform modulation " kill switches" installed. so you could use vco 3 in low mode to give modulation to two vco waveforms without affecting it's own.... but I never heard back after that first conversation. in all fairness in the coming weeks they had pretty major announcements so I understand they were very busy with other things.

fine tune would also be pretty sweet

Regarding #1, my "Pot Mapping" document addresses this on page 3:

Rudi Linhard, the Voyager’s software programmer, explains why only four Amount values are offered (Off, Quarter, Half, or
Full) instead of continuous values: “A calculation by 2 is much easier and faster for a microprocessor than 33 or 91. The
Voyager's processor has to calculate four pot values all the time, and (having to calculate) a continuous value from 1% to
100% would (dramatically) reduce the (Voyager’s) response time.”

Regarding #4, KnobTweak already has enough Voyager patches to easily fill another bank of sounds. Come get 'em!

- Greg

BTW - A fine tune WOULD be a pretty sweet addition!

The real question is, wouldn't it be about time the CPU board of the now 14 years old Voyager (the design) be upgraded (once more) with a faster processor, and more memory, to accommodate new features (sold as an additional option) ? This board is easily user replaceable, or it could be installed by Moog at a fee (with extended warranty included)?
That could be a new source of revenues for Moog Music, and a great opportunity for existing Voyager owners around the world (there must be many thousands of them by now?) to upgrade their beloved Moog synth ?

'Just saying...

I would drop some cash for that!

That would require a complete rewrite of the OS. The Voyager OS was written in assembly and is 0% portable to a modern CPU. Then you'd have a pile of regression testing. Pretty big effort.

I think in the near future we will see the voyager get discontinued, but probably not until they have another semi modular super synth lined up

The Voyager won't be discontinued until they issue the Steampunk Voyager, the Marble Countertop Voyager, the Hello Kitty Voyager...

I'd buy a Hello Kitty or Ghost in the Shell Voyager faceplate!

Not necessarily. With today's programming tools, I'm sure Rudi could recompile the source code for other more modern and powerful processors, while adding extra features.

Regarding the OS, Rudi must be working on it since there is at least one bug reported: http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.ph ... t+velocity
