Voyager Envelope Repeat via CP 251?
Voyager Envelope Repeat via CP 251?
Hi everyone,
I'm on the preorder waitlist for a Sub 37 at Sweetwater, but am becoming alarmingly tempted by the Voyager Performer Edition. One feature I love about my Sub Phatty (and presumably the Sub 37) is the ability to easily have the Phatty filter and amp envelopes repeat/re-trigger. I'm wondering if the same general effect can be achieved on the Voyager using a CP 251's LFO or a VX 351 gate. All feedback appreciated.

I sometimes use this trick: run the square LFO into the trig input so that the envelopes retrig at theLFO rate.
There is a difference with envelope looping though: in the first case (i.e. the trick I've just described), increasing the attack time e.g. will not change the rate but only the resulting shape, while in the second case (true envelope looping), it will change the whole resulting waveshape not conservating the rate.

as stiiiive said, re-triggering the envelopes on the voyager is different than sub looping adsr. but it can be done simply by assigning what you want to trigger the envelopes (lfo, keyboard, external, xy etc) and flipping the env trig switch to external/program. no patching out to cp or vx required, plus you can save it that way.

I've been messing around with these using the handsome voyager.
Both Gate and Rate have CV inputs and can be assigned internally and externally.
But, I haven't been able to modulate the whole envelope as easily as I can within the Sub. Maybe, it is because in the Voyager, both parameters (Env and Gate Env) are independent. Freestyle.
Is there a way to map those two in a way that you can use the looping envelopes as easily as you can with the Subs?
Stiiiiiiive: You refer to two cases, running the LFO to the trig and, which is the second?

Is there a way to have an lfo re trigger the gate(s) and synch it to a key press? So the lfo resets with a key press.

yep, just switch the knob below the lfo rate to "key"Gladmarr wrote:Is there a way to have an lfo re trigger the gate(s) and synch it to a key press? So the lfo resets with a key press.

Re: Voyager Envelope Repeat via CP 251?
That might have fallen under the category of dumb questions. I should really spend more time with my voyager.

There are no dumb questions... just obvious answers

I think I used to make more of an effort to learn about the internal settings of the voyager when I had a Voyager anniversary edition. Now that I got my XL, I try to patch things with cables first and then start digging around for menus. I think I unlearned a lot of things switching from a Voyager to a Voyager XL.

Yep, sorry. I remember I read again my post when sending it the first time and I thought "is it clear...?"bichuelo wrote:Stiiiiiiive: You refer to two cases, running the LFO to the trig and, which is the second?
I corrected the original post. Here are some more details:
- The first case refered my trick. This way of doing leads to constant rate and wave shaping via the setting of the ADSR parameters. I mean that e.g. if the attack time is longer than the triggering LFO rate, then the decay stage won't be effective. You would have to set the attack time lower so that the envelope has time to reach its decay stage.
- The second case refered to true envelope looping alla Sub Phatty. This way of doing is differnet in that it does not ensure the constant rate (*) but it ensure the envelope will pass though each of its stages before it loops back.

Re: Voyager Envelope Repeat via CP 251?
I've just read it in the Sub37 manual.
"Envelope SYNC allows to retrigger the envelope at every unit of the beat" --> this is just like what I suggested with the LFO triggering the Voyager envelopes.
"The shorter the envelope times, the faster the loop will repeat" --> This is what I meant : hte overall envelope length determines the tempo.
