Voyager XL white - backlit??

Post by Gladmarr » Tue Jun 17, 2014 4:56 pm

Does anyone here have a Voyager XL in white? Is the front panel backlit like the earlier versions of the voyager?

I'm pretty sure all Voyager XL's are not backlit. The only backlit models are Electric Blue and Select Series Voyagers..

Thanks for that. It's a bummer. I really like the backlit panel. I wonder why they'd take that out.

Most probably I think partly to be 'old school modular style' - as it's a 40th anniversary Voyager model, and partly to keep the Electric Blue/Select Series as something special in their own right.

They never took it out, they didn't put the money into setting it up in the first place.

… okay, that's just splitting hairs. They took it out in the sense that the Voyager had it and now the XL does not. It was an awesome feature on the Voyager. One would think they'd want the XL to be more special….

It's not splitting hairs. The XL has a rather different front faceplate. Saying that they took it out is like saying that they took it out of the Old School, which is also a separate faceplate. Just because Moog decides to do this for one of their Voyager styles does not entitle us to have it on any other.

Well, backlight or no, I pulled the trigger on a White Voyager XL. It's important to buy yourself some new toys for your birthday. Keeps morale up. Besides, after missing out on a Minimoog Model D last week for what was basically a steal, this was the next best thing.
