Voyager Select with Slim Phatty

Post by psr » Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:50 pm

So I recently bought a Minimoog Voyager (exciting... wanted one for years and years.) I already have a slim phatty. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using these two together. I linked them via midi last evening and not that the Voyager needs any assistance but the SP added on to make a huge hulking sound and it seems I was able to play two notes at a time sometimes to make two note chords but it was not consistant so I was a bit uncertain if that was indeed what I was actually hearing. If they can be used in that way to be polyphonic I will probably consider another SP (or two) at some point later. I could clearly see the SP filter cut off and resonance responding when tweaking the filter cut off and resonance on the Voyager so that was pretty cool. And when i changed a sound on the voayger the SP would change to what it saw as a corresponding sound (i.e. Voyager change to A66, SP changed to preset 66 and it would stop changing after 99 on any given bank of the voyager).

But polyphony was inconsistent enough that I am not sure that polyphony is possible. THere is always the possibility that something is not set properly which could cause the inconsistency but I figured I'd ask here for those of us that have experience with a similar set up.

yes. so if I am i understanding correctly I need to turn on poly mode on the SP.Does this only apply with 2 or more phattys or Do I need to do something similar on the voyager to get use of two polyphonic voices?

well the manual is always the way :D

"For the ultimate in genuine Moog polyphony, try connecting several Voyagers together,
or a combination of Voyagers and Little Phatty synthesizers. For more information on
polyphony connection options, see the MIDI KEY ORDER function on page 65."

*************************
MIDI KEY ORDER allows multiple Voyagers to function together as a
polyphonic synth when controlled by an external MIDI device. Up to 16
Voyagers can be linked together to create a 16-voice synth. To define
the number of Voyagers in a polyphonic setup, set the MAXIMUM KEYS
parameter to the number of Voyagers in your setup, then configure each
Voyager for a different voice number using the ACTIVE KEY parameter.
For example, if you have 3 Voyagers in your setup, each should be set for
‘MAXIMUM KEYS: 3’, and the first Voyager should be set for ‘ACTIVE KEY:
1’, the second ‘ACTIVE KEY: 2’, and the third ‘ACTIVE KEY: 3’. Use the
CURSOR to select the MIDI Key Order parameters and use the -1/+1
buttons to select the values.

You can also use a combination of Voyager and Little Phatty synths in a
polyphonic

I just got a voyager and I already have a few phatties. I could not get the to work for the life of me. Read and retread both manuals in full. Read other threads on the topic. Checked that all my ins and throughs were sorted. Read another forum post where someone had success and imitated, tried everything, my voyager just does not seem to want to send data to the phatties as any note other than the note I first play. Anyone else hitting a wall here?

I'm also having trouble getting my voyager to follow a note priority setting when sequencing via midi, as I wrote in another post, so maybe my whole voyager midi is borked?

Contact Moog support if you think anything is wrong with your board. They'll quickly and easily give you a series of tests to see if it's the Voyager, the SP's or Operator Error.
