playing with YES in the Hammersmith Odeon (London) (UK
a few weeks ago.
They made the best sounds in his set, for sure!
If only he'd brought real pianos/mellotrons/organs etc etc too
I saw Rick Wakeman with two Voyagers onstage!

Wakeman and 30 year old analog
Here's a funny story.
I saw Wakeman in April in London playing his new Album "Out There". On stage he had among others, a classic mini and a new Voyager (Walnut serial #5). During the 3 hour set he played the Voyager 4 times on two songs while he played the model D on every song!
In fact at one point all the MIDI kit went down (including the Voyager), the band played on and Rick continued the song on the only synth still operating - the 30 year old model D but, not even Wakeman can solo over the whole song (he tried!) so the band had to stop midway through the song.
After a 30 minute break the band continued the set by playing the last single note of the previous song . . . quite funny.
There's a lesson in there somewhere!!!

i just saw wakeman's one-man show from 2nd row. no ,minimoog on stage at all. he could have used it for the 6 wives stuff and journey.
i got to ask him why when the show was over ( a big thrill to talk to my childhood hero), and he said that because it was a monophonic instrument, it wouldn't work in a one-man show. he loves the voyagers though, and then he got wisked away to sign stuff...
