Thanks for a quick reply Rudi ! :D
Hmmm, I've always thought that the pots had 14 bits resolution. Interesting.

But is the Voyager supposed to send out every single value change of the LSB via MIDI out when turning only one knob slowly ?

Not at the moment, but I'm working on a good solution...

Thanks again Rudi. Much appreciated !

There you have It CZ Rider, the answer directly from the man himself.

12 bit resolution should give you 4096 steps.

The use of two CCs spaced 32 apart is how MIDI supports 14 bit resolution (except for pitch bend). Controllers 0-31 are the MSB, 32 to 63 are the LSB. So looking at controllers 19 and 51, these are in fact linked together.

Yes, that is part of the Non Registered Parameter Number (NRPN) scheme of the MIDI implementation, where any of the first 32 controls can be optionally paired with a control offset 32 higher. This is the rare 14-bit Continuous Controller feature of the MIDI specification, and NRPNs simply take advantage of that existing option to offer 16,384 possible values instead of only 128.

But the problem that CZ Rider has observed is that the Voyager doesn't send ALL the data via MIDI out, even though internally it works at this high a resolution with all the 4096 steps.

And, as Rudi Linhard pointed out, it is a very small bug in the software of the Voyager that he his working on.

sorry to keep bringing this up, but can someone give me a definitive answer on my original question: the internal knob resolution

i see a lot of different numbers so which one is it: 16384? 4096? 256?

the lcd indicator would lead me to think only 256 steps but hopefully it's much higher, but it's been brought to my attention that the knob resolution on the voyager is too coarse to allow very subtle osc detuning to perform slow beating like on the phatty line which uses Real Analog Control technology for the knobs...?

Hi Rudy, did you implement a solution that allows you to get every single change of the LSB when through MIDI-out. If so, wow and thank you!!! And how can I get this update? 8)

this is great information; based on what everyone has provided in this thread, I have been experimenting:

unless it's a placebo, I have noticed that with the display turned off, I get better resolution & more control when tuning multiple OSC

I am curious though: when you save a patch, with display off, does it use the actual 12 bit ( 4096 step ) resolution, or snap the value to a 256 step value?

and then conversely, if you open a patch you saved with display off, then turn display on again, does it change any of the pot/patch values?

maybe it only changes them to 256 steps, if you move a pot?

thanks!

!
It’s not a placebo. You have to switch off the parameter display to get increased resolution.
