Mod Wheel LFO flashing - switch off?

Post by restlessboy » Wed Apr 03, 2013 4:32 pm

Hello again forum,

I think I read somewhere that you can stop the mod wheel from flashing in time with the LFO, but I can't see how to do it - have searched the manual but can't seem to find it. Can anyone help?

It kind of gets on my tits. :)

Taken from the Moog Music web site:

This is a custom modification which drives the pitch and mod wheel LED brightness directly from the LFO triangle wave output, giving you an accurate and dramatic visual representation of the LFO voltage level at any moment. It comes with a small internal switch which allows you to set the wheel lighting back to "always on" in case of visual over-stimulation.

You don't like it? A matter of taste I guess... I paid big bucks to have clear plexiglass mod wheels flashing at the LFO rate installed on my Prodigy.

Caveman solution--black vinyl tape on the rim?

Well, I guess restlessboy might have electrocuted himself while looking for that elusive internal switch ?
I hope he didn't turn out blind by staring too long at those super bright flashing wheels ?

Even without flashing, the wheels are a little too bright for me. My Voyager lights up red. I'm going to tape the rim with red vinyl tape and see how it looks.

Good luck to the OP, sorry I can't help. Call Moog?

@restlessboy

In case you didn't see my original response, here it is again:

Sorry! Been away from the forum for a few days. So this internal switch... how exactly do I get to it? Remove the back panel or some other way....? I did look!

Thanks!

My guess would be underneath the mod wheel assembly, on the LED pcb itself.

You could send Moog an email asking them.

The info I got is from the Moog Music web site under "factory mods".

I finally found a shop who can send and ship this mod....but my question is.....can this be done easily by myself....or is it really necessary to ship my Voyager to Moog for this modification.....?
Any calibrations or something to be performed for this...?

Just send a quick e-mail to Moog Music support team, they'll probably tell you all about it...

I got the following e-mail from Moog when I asked:

The flashing wheel switch is located underneath the pitch and mod wheel module. To access it:
*Remove the 2 long screws from the front of the wheel module
*Pull out the wooden block and carefully lift the module up and out
*Look for a small board that is attached to the corner of the larger board underneath. It should have a small black and silver switch. Flip the switch to the opposite position.
*Reinstall the module, wood block, and screws.

Sounds easy enough. Haven't got round to trying yet. Will take some pictures once I've opened it up, should help anyone else interested in turning it off.

I would add; be careful when re-installing the mod-wheel assembly in place, to make sure that it is inserted properly in the groove in the wood casing at the top back. Otherwise the two openings for the screws on the top front won't line up properly with the holes in the wood. The original Minimoog D has the same mod-wheel assembly design also.

And thanks for the follow-up. :D

Why are you not trying another model ?I know LFO is something related to status but not reasonable ,so you can try other brand. :)
