Another 'what cable' thread - effects loop?

Post by restlessboy » Mon Feb 25, 2013 3:13 pm

One thing that surprised me with the MV when it arrived was the insert effect loop pre-filter. I assumed there would be an in and an out jack, but no there's just one which necessitates some special cable. No bother really! But I'd be really grateful if someone could save me some head scratching and point me at a suitable place online to buy a suitable cable.

Thanks in advance.

The online user manual shows you how to build your own very easily, using a tip-ring-sleeve jack and two cables with tip-sleeve. Page 19.

Or you could buy this:

NOTE : I do not endorse, nor disapprove of this eBay seller. This is just to show what the cable looks like (the red ringed cable would be the return signal), and how inexpensive it can be.

Even cheaper here:

And then there's the more expensive heavy duty version here:

RadioShack should have what you need, but mine didn't. I ended up getting a 1/4" TRS male to 2x phono, and then a pair of phono male to 1/4" mono male. I'm sure I could have built something but I decided to throw money at the problem instead.

Hello,

Belated thanks for those who've replied so far.

Would these cables be suitable?

Just not sure because they don't state TRS.

Thanks!

Nop.

These are simply stereo splitters. They simply allow a stereo signal to be sent to two devices. That's not what is needed for an effect loop.

As stated before, you need a "send/return" or "stereo to two mono left/right" adapter.

One end will be TRS and the two others will be TS each.

Since you seem to be located in the U.K., here's what you need on Amazon U.K.

Thanks! I could tell something wasn't right. Surprised audiospares don't seem to have them. And yes I am in the UK!

Look for these, available worldwide, they are cheap but very good.

And buy at Moog-Audio if you can, will cost you .56 cents per month (24 months), That's about one third of a Euro. Good stuff does not get any cheaper than this
