Over my head and I like it

I've ordered the starting diy kit for a Klee sequencer
I've purchase a Voyager xl and several Moog Foogers for modular experimenting/ sound creating, I'm still in the process of setting this up.
I went all Moog in this endevoure in hope's of fewer incompatibility issue's.
What I want to do is use the Foogers as extra voice's in a control voltage sequence in addition to my Minotaur and Voyager

That is to say to turn the Foogers into stand alone synths

This shall require some type of ADSR and Filter 1/4" inch compatible preferably

I have 4 possibly 5 foogers to use as individual voice's
I plan on doing this in stage's but what I need firstly is ADSR Amp control and secondly Filtering
I"m looking to build a basic no oscillator modular and I would like to keep it clean.
I'm not looking for a lot of wacky self indulgent time wasting stuff, as admitadly I too much love wasting time
Something basic and clean to keep me concentrated on the core sound of the oscillator/filter/amp tone
The Foogers and the Xl present me with plenty of modulation option I would say and I'm am considering a CP 251 for extra option's as well

What I'm trying to get at is I like Moog's Tone and a Tone is in my opinion a miniature sequence / melody on it's own
A system that can punch out rhythmically focused are perhaps sweeping and unfocused melodic Tone
not a lot of eurorack quack quack squawck quack fizzle boom beep...........................

I've been checking ebay and elsewhere and I'm presented with far to many option's and far to little know how

Can anyone that has used Foogers as seperate synth voice's present me with any advice?

I thought only the 101 could do this, I don't know how you would get a "voice" out of a murf or a clusterflux etc.

The Midi Murf can also used as "stand alone" synth... you have to loop back the output to the input, and then start with tuning - I got nice sounding patterns...

And enjoy your XL (as I do...)!

Thanks for the tip! Just tried it. What exactly did you mean by tuning?

To me it just had a feedback loop ramping up and then back down, through the filter.

The Murf Loop produce a wide range of pattern driven sounds - or on PATTERN [1] it will produce a nice drone sound (depends of the position of the filter sliders...).

If a pattern is selected, the Murf produces rhytmic fedback patterns - their sound is also depends the filter settings. With ENVELOPE you can adjust the attack (as usual), with the DRIVE and MIX you can influence the feedback sound and mix.

I made the loop via my mixer, so I have the overall control. I have no "ramping up and down..." - just a nice sound :D

That's the "tuning" - try it!

I just experimenting to control the Murf by MIDI in this looping setup...

I don't know if I've responded to you before, but congrats on your purchases. You just jumped right in!

I was forced to go the dotcom route for the Envgens and VCAs because the only hole in the Moog line is one that consists of those modules, otherwise the Foogers would be totally independent.

So for the longest time my rack looked like this (minus 2 foogers not racked)

That was back in May. This is where I stand right about now...

The multimode filter is great. I really like the bandpass and all of the controls it has. I can get some thumping Berlin School sequences, but I ordered the STG Soundlabs Mixer because it is supposed to be a clone of the Moog CP3 mixer and I think will increase the "thump" that is lacking from the VCA.

Get yourself a Doctom rack frame and a QPS2 power supply and go from there.

Good luck.

Oh, I forgot to mention:

Famous last words.

EricK, thanks for sharing this. Really inspiring! I'm talking with my music engineer friend about making some synth modules to integrate with my XL, and this is great to see.

Here's a question about the dot.com modules: it looks like they don't have a dedicated LFO module, but that the oscillator module can also function as an LFO. How slow is the LFO function? Is it comparable to the LFO's in the voyager?

Thanks!

tom

Thank you for the advice my Voyager XL has Arrived as you can see from my avatar
that's strictly for laugh's by the way I did not smoke test that particular set up.

I just starting to get a better Idea of how the Fooger's can be used with this thing. I've got two freq box's at least I'd like to set up as stand alone synth's dot.com look's like the way to go it must be good stuff I don't see much showing up on ebay where I've been shopping around.

The murf trick I have to try still to busy playing with my massive toy with a few rendition's of ode too joy with ripping ribbon fx's of coarse.

I gave my scopes away, didn't have any probes nor did I know how to use them anyway so I can't give you an accurate reading as to the differences between them, but just based on a quick test here is what I came up with:

I have 5 LFO's here with LFO outs available.

The MF-103 is by far the slowest of the bunch.
The Dotcom is slower than the Ringmod Voyager and Cp*.
The Ringmod is slower than the Voyager and CP
The Voyager is slower than the CP.

*The dotcom seems like it would oscillate at around the same speed as the Voyager, but it covers a much wider frequency range, so it takes longer.

One would need a scope to test which one is the fastest.

The FreqBox is a natural for what you want I think ~ very simple solution as described in it's manual~ feed it back in as External Audio in and you have another oscillator immediately, the CP-251 will give you several choices ~ but you can also do what you want with even more variety, than the CP-251 with the onboard options right out of the XL and back into itself.
