Voyager OS - Third Oscillator Not Always Working

Post by nightfur » Fri Sep 28, 2012 4:04 am

Has anyone experience the 3rd oscillator on the Voyager OS not working all the time? I've turned it on and off several times with no luck. Sometimes it just works when I click it on.

thanks in advance.

Well, turns out my Old School's 3rd oscillator is not functioning. This voyager is only 6 months old, so its covered by warranty. Shipping it back to Moog tomorrow. I'm not sure what caused the oscillator failure, but hopefully the tech's will let me know what is going on in there. A bit upsetting that a new synth like this is not working properly - even after being handled with care!

Wow are you having to pay for these additional repairs?

I had OSC 3 go dead on my OS too...post warranty. Since it was in the Moog shop 6 months prior for a checkup/mod they were understanding about me being frustrated that the OSC went dead soon thereafter. They took care of me, as they always have. Aside from Mesa/Boogie, I've not dealt with a customer service as responsive and accommodating as Moog.

Excuse me if this is a ridiculous suggestion, I mention it just because it happened to me. I thought for days I had lost an Oscillator until I realised turning the Wave button (I think it was) was muting the audio track via midi in Logic

Ahem...this thread is about the Old School model which has no MIDI...

But nevertheless, for those with a regular Voyager that might have a silent oscillator, this is good advice to check in Logic first before calling Moog Music. Thanks. :D

so it seems I should 'fess up about my Old School's OSC3 prob : sounds like I've been a bit naughty with some of the CV's I've been shoving into her ... Just spoke at length with Patrick down at HHB in London who repaired my Voyager - I'd actually taken out one of the dual LPF's which apparently will often take OSC3 out with it. Hmmm...note to self - be a bit more careful with my patching. oops.Source Distribution (Moog in the UK ) have been great with the repair - back to me door to door in 4 days & included a free tune-up & re-calibration etc. free of charge. I feel a bit embarrassed though now .

How exactly were you 'naughty'...? I'm waiting for my Voyager to arrive and planning to patch it like an old quilt so want to avoid similar damage.

Yeah I'd be curious what happened because I just bought the Moog CP-251 and I was planning on patching allsorts into everything, 1974 minimoog, doepfer modular, ms20, voyager etc I'm pretty new to CV so any tips might save me :)

I think it's just a matter of not summing too much CV, or use attenuators just in case.

Also, new Moog gear works best with 5V or less...summing voltage or using equipment that puts out 10V or more with new Moog gear will cause damage, if not immediately, over time.
