Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
Re: Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
Everybody is so keen to get a Solina. Better try to find a Eminent 310 organ. it is the father/mother of the solina. It has a string section and a 6 delay-line ensemble FX. Not a triple one like on most other string machines you can think of. Jean-Michel Jarre used these string for his Oxygene and Equinox albums. Actually most of this organ sounds make the famous sound on these recordings. Just check all those YouTube videos of people playing this organ.
You might get one as cheap as I did: 57 Euro plus the gas I spend to fetch it 240 km away from my home.
Me and my Eminent 310 theatre (= with build in rhythm machine) and a Small Stone Phaser (here the russian version) for the famous sound of Jarre
OK, its a bit bulky to transport or to store in your studio.

Re: Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
Look at it this way...you could get rid of a keyboard stand and set another keyboard on top.n2design wrote:oh wow, nice. I dont have the space for that unfortunately.

Great picture, Here are some more from In The Flesh Tour. 3 Minimoogs were used to support the Animals Album Tour. I love those old rig set ups. It brings a tear to glass eye! http://www.angelfire.com/va/battersea/tourpics.html
Re: Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
The mere prospect of being able to afford three Minimoogs is simply mindnumbing to me. Seeing them al lined up like that is surreal, like something out of a whacked out dream. A really, really good whacked out dream.Rob Smith wrote:Great picture, Here are some more from In The Flesh Tour. 3 Minimoogs were used to support the Animals Album Tour. Re: Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
This IS Pink Floyd, you know...they probably could have bought one Minimoog for every 200 tickets sold, after paying the roadies, manager, and whoever else. Gary Numan used to tour with 5 Polymoogs...if you want to talk about expensive.Kenneth wrote:The mere prospect of being able to afford three Minimoogs is simply mindnumbing to me. Re: Did Pink Floyd use any moog gear?
I've seen references to an interview with Rick, where he says he first used the Minimoog on the recording of "any colour you like" from DSotM, but I can't find the original source:
"According to his own admission, Wright used the Moog for the first time in “Any Colour You Like” (1973) by overdubbing the echo-heavy synth leads. "

Here are some sources on Wright's gear you'll find your answer here:fyvewytches wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2012 4:24 am There are loads of photos with RIck Wright and a Minimoog. And just a wild guess here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond does contains more than a slight Moog sound specially at right at the start and last part.
I don't remember seeing any sort of modular gear. Of course I didn't know him personally but I would think Rick Wright would have been more into just playing the keyboard than twiddling knobs... He seemed more of a traditionalist preferring piano and organ. Roger Waters on the other hand seemed quite partial to playing with the EMS gear and making floyd-noise.

Those whatgear links are terrible: are they generated by bots or something?
There are clear pictures of Rick using multiple minimoogs on stage, and no mention of them.
Unfortunately people think they are accurate, and spread them around, sowing more confusion!
