Sustain Pedal

Post by mariusdevries » Sat Sep 24, 2011 1:48 pm

Just unpacked and set up new Voyager XL as master Midi controller in one of my studios :|
The packaging contained a lovely Moog footwsitch
Yet I see nowhere to plug in a standard Midi Sustain pedal
Am I missing something? Is there a workaround?

Use the gate ENV input for it and have fun,
Rudi

The voyager is monophonic, why does someone want to use a sustain pedal with it? Or is there a special playing technique which i don't know yet?

MIDI master controller will need a pedal at some point.
Voyager OS, Prophet 08, Rhodes MkI 73, NordLead2 and more...

Hold notes while you play the TS and turn knobs is one reason.

.... while the other hand is still free to play on another keyboard. Good idea! I Like it!

Am I missing something?

I just tried 3 different sustain pedals, and 2 expressions...I can't get it to work for some reason.

I think you'll need a negative gate, i.e. a normally closed switch (push to break).

P.S. you can drone with the Env. gate rocker, but you probably knew that.

^yeah....When I move the rocker to "ext" I get the legato drone, but only when the pedal is pressed. Otherwise, there is no sound.

I suppose it isn't a huge deal, but about a week after I got my Voyager, I had a session where a sustain pedal really would have come in handy (Playing another keyboard with my left hand, while doing some weird legato runs on the Moog with my right). I felt like a tool for having to ask the engineer to keep going back for me to overdub the Moog part with both hands. :D

I like to use the voyager as a master keyboard. So I plugged a sustain pedal into the Env Gate input, turned the env gate to on/external, but the sustain pedal does not seem to change the midi out messages.

Hast du nicht die 3.6 Version? Da kannst du jeden beliebigen Controller im MASTER Menue auswählen.

For those not speaking German, here's the French translation:

"N'avez-vous pas la version 3.6 du logiciel ? Puisque vous pouvez utiliser n'importe quel contrôleur dans le menu de sélection MASTER.
Cordialement,
Rudi"
