Minimoog Overload light is always on/no sound

Post by decibel001 » Fri Dec 03, 2010 8:37 pm

I had a friend using my Minimoog model d to filter some sounds she was working using the external input. When she returned it I found that the Overload light was always on and what's worse is that my synth isn't making any sound period...
any ideas on what this might be? Or how I might go about fixing it?

Lesson 1: Don't loan out your vintage synth.
Lesson 2: Get the person who broke it to pay for repairs.
Step next: Call Kevin Lightner (or PM him on the board here) and see what his experiance says it could be.
See the bottom of this page for some other information...

Thanks, I've noted the not lending bit.
Do you know what Kevin Lightner's username is?

I had observed a similar behaviour with my Mini Moog D many years ago. I played with the external power sockets (for external gears such as ribbon controller or bongo etc.) in order to extract "a voltage" to drive the oscillator (actually a stupid idea...). And then the overload light went on (very bright) and no sound anymore. I thought the Mini Moog was dead. But fortunately it only blowes the fuse on the back. After I replaced it the Mini Moog was fine again - what a relief!
Maybe your problem can be solved also in such an easy way (hopefully).

Where is the tutti button on this instrument? ...

Hi there... I know it's quite an old thread here, but I'm facing the issue that the overload lamp remains lit, the unit is still producing sound though.
And I don't have any external input connected!
What might be the cause?
Thanks and regards,
Flavio.

I remember reading many years ago about the external lamp being on all the time due to a broken PSU inside.

As usually, check the PSU first.
Better ask someone with the needed knowledge to do it for you.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

Hallo Till,
thanks for your reply. I will either way bring it in for a service next month or so, thus I'll ask to check this as well.

BR,
Flavio.

I was taught by Kevin that this means one of the fuses is out and needs to be replaced.

Hi ppl.
Sorry that I never replied here...
My tech had to replace an IC (small 8-legged one) and that fixed the issue...
