Recording Balanced Interface Issues

Post by facon » Thu Sep 15, 2022 4:58 pm

I have a Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32, DFAM, and Subharmonicon that I want to record. I’m connecting it to a 32 channel interface that has TRS 1/4 balanced Dsub cable. I can’t simply swap cables out for TS. The Matriarch works fine. The rest of the synths are incredibly low volume.

I bought Hosa 1/4 TRS TO 1/4 TS adapters and they didn’t fix my issue. Does anybody have any experience on how to record these synths? Can you send me a link for a part you know works? Why would Moog make it so difficult to plug a synth into a basic recording interface?

Okay, I figured out a solution for now. It seems as though the TRS to TS adapters connect the ring to the tip, which causes phase cancelation.

I’m using 1/4” insert/Y cables and only plugging into one of the inserts (tip). It works. My only issue now is that the Grandmother and Mother 32 have significantly higher noise levels.
