Matriarch Filter Open, Audio missing top end

Post by jlaudamusic » Tue May 03, 2022 6:10 pm

Id like to brighten the audio when filter is open

Love my Matriarch but its missing that top end sizzle that my model d and some other synths have

I remember the voyager was darker

Any cable routings that can brighten it up a bit?

If you use the eurorack output on the back instead of the main audio output the signal will be brighter. You'll not have a volume control though.

The loss of brightness comes from several parts of the Matriarch's circuitry. The key loss of high frequency, however, comes from a stereo VCA that is controlled only by the volume pot on the front panel. The eurorack output does not go through this circuitry and therefore is brighter.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and don't mind pulling your unit apart then I devised a series of modifications that fixes the high frequency loss and several other problems with the Matriarch. See this post on the Modwiggler forum for details:

You could bypass the filter by patching the mixer output into the Amp Envelope and see if it sounds brighter to you that way.
