Sync DFAM to M32 when running MIDI into M32

I'm sequencing Mother with MIDI from external gear and can't work out how to get DFAM to sync to it. The normal way requires the Mother onboard sequencer to be running if I understand correctly.

Hope this isn't a dumb question. I am a barbarian.
