High pass filter comparison: Matriarch vs Mother 32

Post by monosources » Fri Apr 24, 2020 2:11 am

I’m wondering if anyone has compared these two filters, as they seem to do different things.

I ran the triangle wave from oscillator 1 on the Matriarch straight into VCF 1, with the filter set to HP/LP series. Then I ran the VCF 1 output to an oscilloscope.

I compared that to running the Same wave into the external input of the mother with its filter set to high pass.

What I noticed:
When changing the cutoff, the mother’s high pass shapes the triangle into an almost square wave, but the matriarch takes on a completely different shape. I experimented with the spacing, cutoff, and even external attenuation of the cutoff.

I assumed if I just ran a wave into VCF 1 and then straight out, then that would be just the high pass circuit on the matriarch. Just curious if anyone else noticed this and if the designs were intended to be different.
