I'm running a couple of mother 32s into a Barbetta Sona 31 225W solid-state amp for a clean and wide sonic pallet. I'm wanting to add the ability to have some searing distorted tones ala John Lord albeit without the B3 and 100 W Marshall. I tried adding an MF Drive both in front of the amp and it's effects loop, but at it's extreme settings in both locations it only boosted the volume a bit without adding distortion. I also tried the Keeley Filaments, but it's effects were mild as well.
I recently found the Effectrode Blackbird https://www.effectrode.com/products/eff ... be-preamp/ and the Victory V4 Countess https://www.victoryamps.com/v4-the-coun ... dal-preamp tube preamps. They both look like they might work well in front of the Barbetta. Has anyone tried these, or anything else to make the Mothers scream?

Here are 20 Distortion Pedals each used with Electric Piano, Organ, and Synth sounds:

Thx DemonDan. That's a great video. I get better results with everything turned all the way up on the MF Drive and my filters in the 2khz+ range. Interesting that it doesn't much affect the lower filter frequencies.
