New firmware ideas

Post by LeCCComte » Sun May 01, 2016 8:54 pm

I heard there may be a new firmware for the Mother 32 :) so...

PLEASE allow sequence selection via midi CC, way simpler in a computer free rig !

thx moog !

Would enjoy a choice of "int" or "ext" for sync option so I don't have to turn it off on my sampler before pressing play on sampler's sequencer transport controls.

No PC here either!

Interesting. I understood that whatever firmware there is in the Mother 32 is fixed in the microcontroller and not externally upgradable. Anyone know for sure?

After some research, the Mother 32 has NO firmware upgrade capability whatsoever. It is what it is.

The lack of USB port like Moog has on the Sub37 kind of gave us that impression that future firmware was not in scope

It doesn't require a USB port to enable firmware upgrades though. It could be done by a sysex dump over the MIDI connection. But as far as I am aware (and I've looked into it) it's not an option.

:( :( :(
It's really a shame that you can only select sequence via Program Change, i don't have any midi controller on which i can pre program and simply send a lot of them (my microkontrol is really a PC newbie)

Does someone know about a simple midi controller sending PC easily ? Thx !

Use your hands and fingers. The seq on the M32 is eminently playable. If you just want to do everything on your DAW by pointing and clicking and dragging then maybe external analogue hardware isn't for you.

The OP was talking about a "computer-free" rig...

Well, PC literally stands for "program change". Moog implemented MIDI on the Mother very faithfully. Agreed they could use CC0 for that purpose, too, but decided to allow it on ASSIGN instead.

On the other hand, I agree 100% with being able to disable MIDI START/STOP messages. That's definitely missing. My workaround for now is to use an external MIDI Thru box which has the ability to filter messages by kind. That's fully compatible with a computer-free setup. The issue with that is that then I'm disabling START/STOP on both Moms.

wtf ? I use my hardware the way i want and am just asking for help for the way I use instruments.
AND, i want to use my hands and fingers on a midi controller to change the sequences, yeah, in a computer free rig.

That said, can i send PC easily with a midi controller ? Mine has like one and only PC per scene. Want to be able to have like a 4X4 pad section with 16 different PCs.
Thx :)
