The new Moog Mother-32 is being discussed at Gearslutz

It's a single voice semi-modular knobby desktop synth with a built-in sequencer. The sequencer has 32 steps. There are 32 CV input/output jacks. MIDI in but no MIDI out. The Moog ladder filter is switchable between LPF and HPF. The sequencer if highly flexible and has lots of cool tricks up its sleeves.

Hehe, sounds like a standalone 1 VCO voice, in Eurorack format nonetheless, $599 I hear. Somewhat like a Werkstatt with CV IO as 3.5 mm/0.1378" sockets.

(will keep discussion in the General forum)

Seems pretty cool. With the added sequencer and a more robust housing like the Minitaur opposed to the Werkstatt. If it does Midi to cv it's a perfect companion to the Subs, a third osc etc... The Oberheim SEM patch panel has 33 CV/ signal I/Os this has 32, seems like a full. complement.

I'll most likely buy one.

The Mother-32 will do MIDI to CV. I checked it out at Knobcon. I'm not into modular, but this looks like an easy and not-so-dangerous entry into that world. The official unveiling will be this Wednesday.

I guess in a roundabout way, this is what people were asking for during the past 10 years or so. You probably have your ADSR env., LFO and VCA now, albeit with smaller/denser sockets. Who wants to speculate on the 32 :)?

VCO
1. 1 v/oct
2. FM
3. FM linear?
4. PWM
5. Sync

6. Tri
7. Sine
8. Saw
9. Ramp
10. Square/pulse
11. Sub square?

VCF
12. Freq
13. Ext in
14. Out

ADSR
15. Trig
16. Rate?

VCA
17. Level
18. In
19. Out

LFO
20. Rate
21. Tri out
22. Square out

Mixer
23. In 1
24. In 2
25. In 3
26. In 4
27. Out
28. Inv. out

Seq
29. Start/Stop
30. Reset

There were 3 working units at Knobcon and they were fun to hear and play with!

The Mother-32 at Knobcon didn't have a full ADSR envelope. It was A and D only. There was a switch to set it to full sustain.

Kind of a bummer, that only the Knobcon attendees got to see and hear this...what are we, chopped liver?! I guess the buzz about this being previewed today was a hoax? Man, I do hate this 'teaser' stuff with a passion. Some colleagues and I have been eyeing the Dark Time for a while, I realize the specs for the Mother are listed above but I haven't had a moment to A/B this against the Doepfer on paper and besides, specs alone don't tell the tale. So far, what I'm reading and hearing indicates a killer little box...I concur, if they're going to call it Mother, it had better have a pretty substantial self-destruct.
