dipping into modular advice?

Post by TheDigitalMan » Tue Jun 08, 2021 6:39 pm

Hey there Moog brothers and sisters. Any advice / starting point for a modular nube? I have lots of synths and experience with some semi-modular but dipping into modular intrigues me. Considering seeing about getting my hands on a model 10 - thoughts or advice?

Thanks!

In case of model 10: for integration purposes a MIDI2CVGATE interface could be useful, and a V => S - trigger converter, if not already present. Afaik this is not included.

Will my voyager performer do the trick as a controller?

Well I pulled the trigger on the Model 10. I have until October / November before I receive it so have a while to figure out how I'm going to connect it to my Voyager. Excited - can't wait!

Do you have the VX-351 CV expander with your Voyager? If so with a CP-251 or equivalent type inverter/attenuverter type function you can invert the keyboard gate signal

Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. So IF I'm understanding things properly, I've decided to go 1 of 2 ways and would love anyones input.

I own a Voyager Performer so;

Voyager Performer
VX-351 (if I can find one)
QMVS-48 Moog Voltage to Switch Trigger Cable

Or

Grandmother
QMVS-48 Moog Voltage to Switch Trigger Cable with a 1/4" to 3.5mil adapter
And a bunch of 3.5mil to 1/4" cables

I'm leaning towards the Grandmother (somewhat 'cause then I get to buy another synth :). but is too bad about the 3.5mil format on the GM.

Thanks again for suggestions.

You could also build ( or buy, dotcom sells them ) 1/4" to 1/8" jack converter panels, to interface signals between the two. Might be easier than keeping track of adaptor cables?

A few years ago I built this portable utility box from the aforementioned Dotcom jack converter panel and a signal selector panel. Comes in very handy to patch the two different connection types:

Panels are available from Synthesizers.com here:

The Voyager is the better option as the controller. Get one of those Kenton Midi-CV converters. There are VX units available but Fooger prices have been nuts over the last few months. Reverb seems to enjoy artificially inflating the price.

I think I hear the mothership coming.

Thanks guys for the tips. I'll keep an eye out for a PRO-2000 MkII. Doesn't seem to be stock anywhere but I have time.

Hi TheDigitalMan,

I connect my Moog Model 10 via a Kenton Pro-2000 and a pair of Synthesizers.com active V-trig to S-trig cables.

Works a treat with my MIDI keyboard.

Using a Kenton Pro-2000 allows the Moog Model 10 to function as a 3 oscillator synthesiser if required.

Hi all, quick follow to this. Took almost a year for my M10 to arrive (SN 85) and have it set up with my mother 32 as a CV controller using a QMVS-48 cable. I can use the on board sequencer on the M32 or via midi. So far so good and super fun :D
