911 release

Post by Rarecomponentadsr » Sun Nov 22, 2015 8:14 am

On my 911 clones I notice that the Release only functions when Sustain is applied a little to the envelope.
I've not looked too deeply into the envelope mechanism of the 911's but wonder if this is normal behaviour for the 911 EG' s ?
I notice that the Hold switch on the Minimog works on any setting.
Also does anyone have any knowledge of using multiple EG's to a single 904 ? I wonder if it's done at all ?

Explain the patch and what you are trying to do and I'll try to duplicate it.

Well there's not any specific patch, this is a basic osc to filter to VCA set up. It's mainly the 911 that controls the audio VCA which goes to external output.
If I set the 911 attack to O and decay to say 1-2 the release has no effect . Its only when I add a little sustain that you hear the release and I wonder if this normal ?
I also notice that the Release has a certain effect on the Attack and Decay if the Attack is set to anything above O ( it seems to speed up the overal attack time) and again wonder if this normal .

The Dotcom EnvGen/VCA combo had no release with no sustain.
Moslab 911/902 was the same.

If the sustain volume is zero there's nothing to release.

I've never experienced a release value affecting the attack value before.

I guess thats it..as you say..if there's no sustain volume there's nothing to release. That seems to explain what's going on with the envelope.

Try this:
Osc>VCA. Open your vca via the knob.
Env>Osc freq in.

Fire a gate at the envelope and listen to what it does to the pitch. Set long values on the ADSR so you can hear all stages clearly. Then see what happens to the attack speed when you lengthen the release.

The pitch changes might give you a better reference than the volume. And make sure you are firing a clear gate. My dotcom envelopes can double trigger depending on how I press the button, so a gate from a keyboard or sequencer might be more consistent.

If you find that your initial pitch increase (attack) shortens depending on the amount of release then I would defer to someone else like MC, CZ, or JLR. I have no clue what would cause that.

For modular specific questions you can even pose those on muffwiggler.com in the 5u section.

Hope this helps,
Eric
