For investors primarily?
Im a 53 year old programmer, by the time I could afford to buy expensive boutique analog gear, the Moog modulars were already long-discontinued, and as such radically expensive, too much out of my range for just one item. So I was elated to discover Moog's reissue of their famed modulars and I could easily afford a System-55 and a lot more. Unfortunately, so could a lot of other folks. However, Moog openly advertises it will only make a specific #, over a short period, which I feel was a great mistake on their part. All that action did, was to allow a handful of people to monopolize the inventory, store the units un-opened, and in a few years, will reap a huge ROI, while people like me, who are TRUE career programmers are once again left out in the cold, wondering how I can raise $250,000 for a Moog modular. This deeply saddens and frustrates me.

Welcome to the forum!
Well, there is always the vintage market, and there are Moog clones like Mos-lab and Synth-Werk. The good news is that they sell a la carte modules at a fraction of the price. And you can get inductor based fixed filter banks, the 901 series oscillators, the Matrix Mixer, filter coupler, and sequencer compliments.
I have to admit that I share your sentiment. It took me 7 years before I was able to really get my modular off the ground, and as soon as I ordered Mos-Lab, Moog announced their Emerson system. When my order was ready to ship they announced the smaller systems. But with a minimum order of $10K that excludes me from enjoying the BEST products from a company that I hold in such high regard. So, I ordered 13 more modules from Mos-Lab. And to add insult to injury, the beautifully bound owners manual isn't for sale either (that pic isn't mine).
I hope they change their mind about individual modules at some point, but seeing as how they went straight to the eurorack market, I have my doubts. I don't think the profit margin is there.
And like you, my gear gets played.

Re: For investors primarily?
last fall i ran into a couple of guys who used to work for Dr. Bob, at a street concert in Asheville. i asked if they had an opinion about the software emulation that Bob gave his OK on, and they smiled and said nothing sounds like a real moog modular. so when moog announced the limited run last January i sweated out the price on the 15 for a week or two and then jumped on it. i received it just about a month ago. believe me, it was out of the box immediately. the box is gone. the manual is great. so many sounds tumble out of each set-up they suggest. (there is a pdf out on the web of a great, though more modest manual that came with the original 15.) just an amazing synth.
Re: For investors primarily?
I haven't seen a lot of "look what I bought" posts from people with Model 35/55s so I'm guessing that Studios or serious musicians bought them up, if indeed they are all sold. But if you haven't done so already, you should check Moog dealer network via Sales in Asheville; you never know, somebody that initially gave a deposit may have backed out.
At the time that I bought my Model 15, the same place I was buying from had sold a 35 and a 55 and a sequencer complement but if I recall correctly, they had more to sell. This was back in the February/March time frame.
It's also highly likely that somebody that bought one of these beasts might sell it in a year or two either because they need to fuel their next rocketship/obsession or to raise funds for whatever personal reasons like having to pay for College. These may or may not go for original price or higher or lower on the secondary market. Time will tell.
Just before I put down my deposit, there was a vintage Model 15 selling out of Portugal that appeared very clean for a thousand or two less than what Moog was changing and it included a 952 keyboard. Just stay positive and something will pop up.

Hey, where would I be able to access that pdf of the original Model 15 manual that was referenced earlier in the thread? Thanks.

He got some sounds out of it, but it needs a complete overhaul. You would have to factor that into the price
It would be nice to have though

Despite having two cabinets, the module set makes it a pretty paltry system.M00G wrote:One of the wigglers on the Muffs forum went and had a look at the beast.Trigger wrote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/272071247336?ul_noapp=true

Re: For investors primarily?
Good point. I guess if you take the sequencer out what is left will barely make a basic System 35.MC wrote:Despite having two cabinets, the module set makes it a pretty paltry system.M00G wrote:One of the wigglers on the Muffs forum went and had a look at the beast.Trigger wrote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/272071247336?ul_noapp=true

It's still a start!
One can't help but wonder where the other modules went.

Re: For investors primarily?
Maybe there weren't. I wonder if it could have been ordered that way, what with the blank panels. But I think the 960, 61, and 62 weren't available until '69. So perhaps a Frankenstein system?EricK wrote:It's still a start!

It would be interesting if the seller could provide the serial from the 910, someone could check it with Roger Luther's sales database.
Re: For investors primarily?
Great- thanks for the link, EricK. Much appreciated.
Re: For investors primarily?
I must admit, I was wrong.
I was able to buy #39 out of 55 and it shipped last week.
Sorry about my whining.......
