Werkstatt Knobs

Post by DeniseK » Thu Jun 16, 2016 2:43 pm

Hello to the forum,

this is my first post because I have my first Moog now. :D
It is a Werkstatt.
I sequence it with my Analog Four and the A4 is also used for the Werkstatt as the effects unit.

Now my question.
Is there any possibility to pull off the fiddly knobs (like Korg Volca style :x ) and pull some real nice knobs on them like the Minitaur has?

Here was a thread that asked if "Is the werkstatt is more than a toy?"

http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=22063

This thread was taken off topic, hijacked by exterior decorators, and their apparent opinion is that if you add larger buttons to anything it can not be considered a toy.

I've bought knobs off of synthesizers.com to make my Wekstatt look officially more Moog-like. The knobs do cover up the labels, but damn if it doesn't look good.

The knobs from synthesizers.com are all 1", but you can get smaller versions from Small Bear Electronics:

Be aware that knobs come in two basic types; the 'press-fit' type for knurled shaft pots and the 'set screw' type for smooth shaft pots. Make sure you are ordering the correct type.

I've used both types for some recent re-knobbing projects:

On a modular panel:

On a vintage synth:

EDIT - I believe these are the same knobs that Moog uses on the M32 and Sub 37.

Thread revival. I'm a new Werkstatt owner. I am having a ton of fun with it and I am considering upgrading the knobs. Where is everybody at with their knobs? Looks like these could be good? Can anyone verify that they won't cover up the writing?

Hello all!

New to the forum here. Hope you all have had an alright 2020. Here's to a better 2021.

I just picked up the Werkstatt-01 myself and also have been interested in adding some knob flair.
Does anyone have any resources, information, or pics of their Werkstatt's with a fresh look?

I have been eyeing some from Love my Switches - https://lovemyswitches.com/knobs/?_bc_f ... l=Aluminum

Thanks!
Chris

I got myself an amazing Werkstatt, and got myself these set of knobs https://smallbear-electronics.mybigcomm ... led-shaft/, and unfortunately, I pushed them in and now I CAN'T TAKE THEM OUT !!!!!

I'm afraid if I pull too hard something might break.
I wish I had been more careful in selecting the right ones, and made sure I could take the out.
I'm devastated (but I love how it looks).

Oof sorry to hear about removal issue. I don’t have anything helpful to say (sorry), but would love to see a pic of your rig.

Just got my Werkstatt and loving it - first moog for me!

I got my knobs through THONK in UK - they work fine and don't cover up the lettering - here's the spec:

They need to be quite small (6.35mm Round Shaft) - mine are 1900h Plastic Knob

https://www.thonk.co.uk/product-categor ... obs/1900h/

In a range of colours too! - not sure which should be the white and black

I can't upload any more images to this thread, but this is my setup here:

and this is the werkstatt sequenced by a beatstep pro through the volca modular
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geD74sIM_gM

you can see the knobs I'm talking about there.

I'm sad, because I would LOVE to be able to tune the werkstatt, and now I can't open the hood anymore.

Got the “Werkstatt Knob Kit” from Thonk. Had them on about a month and am very happy. Feel and look very natural on the unit.
