VST Editor Issues / All Lights Total Meltdown??

Hi, I've been using my 500 series delay without issue for 6 or so months now, today I tried to install the VST editor software for Ableton 9.1 (windows PC).
The editor came up fine in Ableton and in Standalone mode but wouldn't transmit the settings from the editor to the module.
So I attempted to install the firmware update via Midi-Ox as advised and this where problems began.
First I sent the factory reset, then the fw erase and finally the firmware update to the module, following the last update all 4 lights on the (physical) module lit up and all sound sent to the unit bypassed it (despite not being set to bypass)
now whenever I switch on the module - the time light flashes twice before all four lights light up and again all sound bypasses the unit.
How should I proceed?
+ the midi info was submitted via the midi out of an RME Madiface XT
