Rush Bass/ Default Start Program

Post by daddyrnr » Sun Jul 09, 2017 1:12 pm

Can anyone give me some suggestions.

1) Is there anyone that has the sysex they use to emulate the Rush moog bass sound for the minitaur or can suggest which sound I should use or modifications to get the sound closer the what Rush uses. I am finding sysex files for other sounds for my slim fatty and The "Tom Sawyer" sound but not the plain bass the use for most of the other songs.

2 ) I have 2 Minitaurs I am using (stage left and right). The only sound that these will be producing is the Taurus bass sound as mentioned above. What patch do I need to save it in so that when the Minitaur powers up, it automatically starts with that patch .

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Dan :)

I essentially asked a similar question to your 2) in:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28456

I'm not sure it's actually possible.

I've been meaning to do this tutorial for Tom Sawyer for a while:

The comments section seems to point out an OBX was linked to the Taurus but this tutorial gets pretty darn close.

I just got the new firmware this AM. I'll play around with it tonight and see if I can come up with a good patch...

Another place you could ask is at talkbass.com - there is a bass pedal club and some people are definitely doing the Geddy thing!

Thanks for that link, hieronymous! Lots of interesting stuff there! Personally, I've been using the Keith McMillen 12STEP because of it's power and portability. I'm very happy with it:

I simply don't have room on my floor for true Taurus pedals with all of my other expression and sustains

I was experimenting last night with Arturia's SEM to try and get close to the upper part of the Sawyer sound. I think I'm close, I'll try and layer them tonight.

daddyrnr, what other Rush tones are you looking for? Any specific songs? There are some excellent sounds in this Xanadu vid:

Again, I remember reading that their Tauruses (Tauri? :? ) were all modified to control other synths as well... (Also I think the 70s boots might be necessary to get the true effect :D )
