Minitaur takes 5 minutes to BOOT/turn on!

Post by cousinofdeath » Sat May 07, 2016 1:53 pm

So all the sudden my minitaur (beta firmware version 2.1.7) started doing the STRANGEST thing.

When I power it up in the morning (from a cold start) nothing happens at first (apparently). But then, as the synth warms up, all the LEDS (and i mean all of them) start blinking, slowly and dimly at first, and then with increasing speed and intensity. At the same time, an audible low frequency "thump/click" comes out of the output, IN TIME with the blinking lights. As the lights blink faster and more intensely, so does the sound.

None of the knobs do ANYTHING during this freak out, not even the volume knob. I have to make sure minitaur is muted in my mixer or its a bit of an ordeal...

Then, after 5 minutes, the lights are flashing like crazy, the sound is loud and crazy... and then...it stops. Minitaur is working fine. This happens EVERY TIME i boot it from a cold start. If the synth is warm, it takes only about 10 seconds to start being responsive. It's like ALL THE SUDDEN, the synth has decided that it will not respond to anything until a certain operating temperature is reached.

Anyone else ever experience this? I tried wiping the firmware and reinstalling, and it did nothing. Really worried my beast is about to croak, and I NEED my minitaur!

I've contacted tech support, waiting on a response but was wondering if anyone else has any thoughts?

Try a different power supply with the same voltage, same polarity and at least the same Amper rating.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

Sequence:
Prodigy * minimoog '79 * Voyager * MF102 * MF103 * MF104z * MP201 * Taurus 3 * Minitaur * Sub Phatty * MF105 * Minimoog 2017+ MUSE * One 16

I just ordered a new power supply from moog...hopefully this fixes issue.

if not, i haven't heard anything from moog tech support, it's been over a week since i email them.

problem has gotten worse, now can take 30 minutes to boot, if it boots at all.

check out video for what happens:

waiting on new power supply and a word from moog.
