Any chance of implementing a basic arpeggiator on the mp-201

Post by illum » Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:00 am

Just standard issue up/ down/ up, down/ random would be epic. Maybe even throw in a first, last finger played if we're feeling sassy. :)

I didn't want to post yet another request for this thing, it's already completely exceeded my expectations, it's just that with the midi to cv capabilities added, it would be total icing on the cake.

Thanks for all your hard work Amos!

I don't own a MP-201 yet, but what about a Voltage Sequencer? I think it would be easier to implement than an arpeggiator, because an arpeggiator would require a midi input defeating the purpose of control voltage. If a sequencer was added to the MP-201, I would run to the store right now to go buy one.
So this thing only plays one note?

Why would you want to write sequences with a 4 button foot pedal? Arpeggiators are often found in midi to cv convertors but standalone ones are no longer in existence.

Ooooh! Just noticed there's a nice arp implemented in the new Taurus board!
Maybe some of that code can find it's way over here...

Well the sequences could be programmed with a computer editor.

Those features would certainly be useful. :)

Unfortunately the code space is pretty much full. I think I might just have room to add some more LFO features, if I optimize the code that's there. But as I finished the Midi to CV and envelope generation code, I repeatedly ran out of code space... had to optimize, trim things down and make them more efficient... get a few more bytes of space then fill them with new features... rinse and repeat. :) Definitely no room in there for an arp now.

On the other hand, both the LP and the Taurus will send arpeggiated MIDI notes out, and you could feed those into an MP201 to get arpeggiated CV/Gate. Should work just fine.
