Tap Tempo Tremolo (mp201+mf102)

Post by DontBelievetheHype » Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:26 am

I figured out a cool moogerfooger trick today with the MP201 and Ringmod, it may not be new to many of you, but it certainly was to me! I think it is going to make my Empress Tremolo completely rendundant, especially if by gating the lfo (or something..) I can create rythmic pattens, then I'll definitely be able to free up some space on my board by selling the empress trem.

MP201 cv out into the Ringmod's Carrier In, and you have expression controlled, midi syncable and tap tempo tremolo! The squarewave preset doesn't work very well, there is a significant volume drop, but the other do work very well- My favorite being the ramp and saw.

I thought this was a cool trick and just one small example of the cool stuff you can do with the MP201. I was explaining to someone today why I like moogerfoogers, and said: With the line up of foogers, a controller, a bunch of cables, and the time spent/know how, you can emulate the functions of many of the analog effects pedals on the market. I was naming some of these, and that's when it occured to me that I could probably could do a tap tempo trem with the ringmod. I pulled it out of the drawer (replaced by bitcrusher and tap tempo trem, but now back on my board hehe) and ultimately plugged into the Carrier In (first time using that input as well).

Now if I could just get the tap tempo working better (update) I'll really be set. I think Ill post this to knobtweek as well, I hope it can be of some use to some of you :)

Trolls don't communicate by email unfortunately. They only come with set-up instructions for creating new troll accounts.. and living life to the fullest, via said troll accounts, of course.

I don't have the delay, but was curious if this method would make it possible do a midi sync/tap tempo/exp controlled(manually sweeping the lfo) delay??

Hmm? I think this is to easy or it would already have been done, but it would be a main selling point for myself if it actually works!

Anyone care to try, or tell me that it doesn't work? Is it possible to control the time input with an lfo, which you can tap tempo/midi sync with the mp201?

An LFO controlling delay time gives you varying delay times. A cool effect, but probably not what you are imagining.

Have a read through this thread:

Thanks for the link, I had a feeling there was a reason why it wouldn't work, although the work around described in the thread isn't a bad option.

I'm still smitten with the tap tempo tremolo find though. 8)

The ring mod has been my best friend lately, it does so much and allows the others to do much more (the more you have the better they become!) I wish I had an mp201 so I could try this. Ill have to see if anything else I have lying around would work for this
My modular so far: Q104, Q106 x2, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, Mixer and Mankato playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M x2 ( STEREO!) Volca Beats and Bass, Arturia Beat step
