S trig? MG-1?

So I was getting kind of odd performance with my MG1 and the MP201.
Today I tripped over the factoid that the MG uses S-trig (shorting) not gate trigger. This would explain why any square wave or ramp down wave form works with enough offset, but the simple gate functions dont have enough oomph to kick off the Note On.
Can anyone confirm this for the MG1?
Also, is it hard to make an strig to gate adapter? will I be able to get a full envelope that way?
