mp 201 foot switch question

I wanted to try using the the foot switches as gate triggers. Something I'm missing though. Using the foot switch also controls functions on the mp-201 itself in addition to sending out the midi CC# or note# you assign to it. I'm not seeing a way to manage this in the manual. I'm I just glossing over the part that explains this? Thanks.

Aw, I think I finally got it, my issue had to do with a misunderstanding about single channel mode verses quad. Think I have it now... Sorry for a premature post.
