MP-201 LFO Initial Value: Bug?

Post by narrowcaster » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:59 pm

I'm wondering if people with MP-201 experience can tell me if the following behavior is normal or if it's a bug.

I would expect that when an LFO Off state is set to "initial", that channel will always have the same value when turned off. But that isn't happening with my pedal. For example, if I have a channel controlling Pitch CV on my Little Phatty, and set it in LFO mode with the off state to "initial", then turn the channel off and on repeatedly, the pitch coming from the LP is often different every time the channel is off. It sounds to me like the LFO is switching off to the specified initial value about 60% of the time, but nowhere near 100%. This seems to happen on all channels and regardless of which preset I use as a starting point.

Do other people have similar behavior from their MP-201s? Is this a bug or is it something I'm not understanding? And if I'm missing something, what else do I have to do to make sure that when a channel is in LFO mode and turned off, I have a predictable value to park at? Right now I can't really use the LFOs at all because they keep stranding their associated CVs at unpredictable and sometimes extreme values.

Any help would be great, thanks...

I seem to get a similar behavior with the faster LFO's. When I set the LFO slow it will turn off and zero out. When I set it to a fast LFO it seems to get a "stuck note" on the CV voltage so it will hold a voltage at some level.

I have the same issue. You want to turn the footswitch off and the effect revert to where it was before you turned it on.. However it seems to turn the LFO off at where ever it is within it's sweep and keep that value engaged... Annoying!

Thanks for the replies. In the time since my last post I had the issue confirmed by Rosser in the Moog service department, and he passed the information along to Amos. Right now it looks like Amos is extremely busy with the Phatty firmware update, so I haven't asked him for a followup. But I'm planning to get back in touch and ask about this after that seems to have calmed down a little.

At least this has been noted. I've had to cut a track from our set live due to this not working.

Best way to summarise it would be to say that while set to 'initial', it occasionally acts as though it's set to 'current'...

phatty firmware update is finished, Clusterflux firmware is released for beta testing, today I can work on MP201.
I'm testing this right now...

edit: found and fixed.

Awesome news! This has been the bane of my live set up... Any ETA on the update?
