Hey everyone,
I'm getting my tax returns in about a week or so and I'm thinking about spending some of it on a fancy new toy. I was considering either of the control units that Moog has put out (MP-201 or CP-251). What would you guys go for?
To put things in perspective, I'm a bass player running an Ernie Ball MusicMan StingRay 5 through Mf-101, Mf-102 (w/ EP-2), MF 103, and MF-107 (w/EP-2) and into a Hartke HA4000 head and out a Hartke 4x10 Transporter cab. I suppose the bass gear specifics are unnecessary, but I wanted to throw those in there in case anyone was wondering.
I guess I'm really wondering if the MP-201 is superfluous if I already have several expression pedals and go for the CP-251. Conversely, I'm wondering about the ease of use of the CP-251 as I've heard that its really meant for 'hardcore' CV enthusiasts. All your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated!

MP-201 OR CP-251
My setup: Ernie Ball Music Man Sting Ray-5 => MF-107 => MF-101 => MF-103 => MF-102 => Hartke HA-4000 => Hartke Transporter 4x10
These foogers go to 11!

Re: MP-201 OR CP-251
Get the MP-201. The CP has functions that will be of limited value (ErikK will argue with me here) like Mixer, Slew, etc. to a 'mere' Bass player (ha!).
But seriously, you'll get great use out of the fact that you can use the presets of the MP-201 to dial in a variety of settings for your rig. Speaking specifically about the ability to use 2 channels to set a particular parameter while using the other two channels as you do today with the EP-2's.
And it has ability to do LFOs as either RAMP, Saw, S+H, etc. and words of other features.
Not sure if you travel much or use any pedals on a board but the 201 is approximately the same footprint as 2xEP-2's. I've got mine on a Pedal train next to a Carl Marting compressor, a Effectrode VibraChorus, a Diamond ML II (which I control w/the MP also)e, a Boss RC-2 Loop station, and PitchBlack tuner. Along with the 3 Foogers that I have (which are in a rack), it's a hell of a rig.
Just one bass player's advice... [there will be others]

Definitely MP201... unless you want a software editor. I've been campaigning for this since I bought my MP-201 over a year and a half ago... but as yet, NOTHING!!! I can begin to understand this... it doesn't make any sense!!!
Re: MP-201 OR CP-251
Id say that you will be good going either way. Me personally, (also a bass player) I would go with the CP 251, because I am avoiding Midi. I think that if you aren't interested in Synthesis ALOT and more interested in keeping your hands on the bass and your pedals on the floor then the 201 might be better for you.
Try novamusik, you will get one cheaper there than anywhere else that Ive seen in the USA.

Do you guys know a shop in USA/Canada as well as EU that would have a MP-201 left for me?...

Not sure you will find a new one but I suppose it could happen. Most places that were Moog dealers may have taken a single unit because nobody knew much what to do with them.
But here is a used on in Brooklyn. May be an open box / demo vs. actually used. Worth checking with them. I saw a few new ones but they wanted like $700+ for them. Highway robbery but I suppose it's supply/demand.

Re: MP-201 OR CP-251
Very cool, EMwhite I remember I had choosen this shop to bring some gear when I visited NYC last year. I finally had some little things in Manhattan since it was easier to organize.
I've done some research and I may have found some EU shops that still have a couple of MP. I'll mail them before risking to pay toll fees etc.
Thanks
