Spotlight On David Borden/Mother Mallard Tonight

Post by gagliarchives » Sat Apr 10, 2010 12:53 pm

Join the gagliarchives, at 10pm Eastern Time Saturday night for program 1156 as we feature the self titled disc from power trio Scott McGill, Percy Jones, and Richie DeCarlo. We'll also feature new music from Karnivool titled Sound Awake. We'll also feature a doozy of a disc in Lye By Mistake and the Fea Jur CD from late last year.
We'll spotlight the music of David Borden and Mother Mallard as they perform as part of the "Waves Of Inspiration: The Legacy Of Moog". This marks the first-ever exhibition of material from the Robert Moog archives. Co-sponsored by the Museum of Making Music and the Bob Moog Foundation, the exhibit will run until April 30, 2010 at the Museum’s facilities in Carlsbad, California. David will perform his music on April 17th. http://www.museumofmakingmusic.org/
We'll also spotlight Radio Massacre International as they perform on our program next week and perform in Philadelphia, and spotlight Tempest as they make their way to the area as well.
We'll also spotlight some tasty tapes from our studios in 1998 with the Dark Aether Project as they performed 12 years ago this weekend. Tons of other surprises from the vaults as well!
We'll feature our #1 disc for the 4th week in a row in requests from the highly addictive and hypnotic Polish project Pinkroom titled Psychosolstice.

I'm helping with the sound for the event on the 17th! Not much to do as the only instruments are a voyager and a model d, but still! :D
So this thing only plays one note?

I was really, really pleased by this show. For one, Borden has used laptops and software for years now in his performances. But at our request, he brought a Voyager and original Minimoog (originally used by Rainbow in the '70s!) for the show. He and Josh Oxford played live to prerecorded backing, but REALLY used the synths - touchpad and modulations, working the filter and oscillator knobs. Josh is a serious player, and I think we'll see more of him in the future of Moog. I think it was all webcast, but lack of proper mic-ing may have made parts of the talk difficult to follow.

They played one new piece composed for the show, and another "Easter" was from the early days of Mother Mallard. Then at audience request, they improvised a jam. Wonderful to see two MONOphonic synths entertain fully and hold their own. In the hands of skilled musicians, it works!
