Selling a rare synth for a friend

Post by Kevin Lightner » Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:39 pm

http://www.synthfool.com/moraz

Oberheim custom dual manual Oberheim 8 voice synth.
This is one of those "make an offer" type things for now.
If no serious bites, perhaps it'll go on Ebay.
Also, a Voyager is available. Cherry finish.
Signed by Bob Moog at Namm.

OMG I think I just Creamed my Jeans
I met Patrick Moraz at a clinic he put on for Kurzweill back in around '87 at Berklee.. I was taking advance analog synth classes. They had Kurzweill controllers and Oberheim Xpander modules, and Yamaha drum modules along with the early Apple computers with some sound editing software.

That was close to the same time Bob Moog came and he was very nice, like a super nerd and he talked with us and we all asked him questions. It was really a cool experience.

That is something else.. Kevin that is a sweet piece of synth gear there. Nothing like that around.. Tones...

Wow, that's a beautiful synth!

I hope Patrick is doing OK. I was going to see him do a concert about a year or so ago but he had to cancel due to health problems.

MC,

I'm not sure where truth and fiction start and stop.
A 12 voice (at least in the same sized enclosure) would seem impossible to do.
The keyboard interface and programmers need an additional circuit board sandwiched on for every 2 additional SEMs.
At 12 voices, I think these modules would be too tall to fit in a normal case.
But one never knows, so I'd be interested in any info.
Patrick didn't mention he ever had more than this 8 voice though.

Fwiw, I once put up a pic of an 8 voice along with a bunch of additional SEMs.
It was just for the photograph, but people wrote me for years asking about "my 12 (or 16) voice Oberheim." ;-)

As for Patrick's health, I'm not sure what I can discuss or not.
I'll ask, but he has gotten better.
As for me, my operation has been quoted at $80K to $100K, so don't expect me to get better period.
Glad I didn't have to move this beast in here anyway. ;-)

I think this is only the second one of these I've seen FS in the past 20 years...what an awesome machine and opportunity for someone who has the means, thanks for posting this Kevin, at least I can dream about it for a little while. :D

Sorry to hear about your operation, Kevin...I really want this synth, but it's worth more than everything I own put together!
