Which combo would you choose?

Over the last 12 months I've managed to aquire a LP (St1) and a Prophet 08, both as new condition and about a 3rd off their original price. Obviously they sound fantastic together, but I am in a position to be able to upgrade one of them.

So, do I upgrade my LP to a minimoog voyager and keep the PO8, or, do I keep the LP and exchange the P08 to a Poly Evolver.

All opinions and advise appreciated.

Voyager. It's hard to explain, but it is an instrument that trancends the sum of it's components. The Voyager and Hammond are the 2 most played instuments in my studio. Everything else is just for backing tracks.

(That includes An Arp Omni, Arp Quartet, Solina String Ensemble, Dot Com modular, Roland JX-3P, Roland MKS-30, Casio CZ-101, Casio CZ-5000, Ensoniq VFXsd and ST Miracle system.)

Well said.

The Voyager is a dream machine and I can't say enough good things about it.

I think of it as the Bentley of synths.

Without a doubt... get the Voyager.
It will blow the LP away. Big time.

I'd get a Voyager too. The PolyEvolver is pretty incredible, but I don't know that it's polyphony count is worth the cost.

You might consider getting an MEK and a Tetra though... :)

On the other hand: It really depends on what you need/want a Voyager for. If you're mostly using Moog stuff for bass, you really probably don't need a Voyager all that bad, and the PolyEvolver is going to give you some seriously nice sound expansion over what the 08 can do.

Just to let you know, I took the plunge today and ordered my Voyager.
Am a bit in shock, as I have only had my LP 10 months and was just growing to really love it.
Would like to keep the two, but I promised myself I would only upgrade if I sell my Phatty.
Am extremely excited and scared at the same time...help!!

Been there done that.

Sell the Phatty. You'll hardly use it after you get your Voyager.

I can't see how a move from a Prophet '08 to a Polyevolver could possibly be considered an upgrade. Eight voices to four? All analog to analog/digital? Certainly, it would be a downgrade.

Consider, instead, adding a DSI Tetra to your P08, which will increase the polyphony from 8 voices to 12. Or else, consider buying an Alesis Andromeda A6, the mammoth analog synthesizer these days.

You'd be surprised at what some people think about synths these days.

Some guy was trying to argue that a Korg MS2000 was better than a Moog Voyager. I own both and there's no comparison.

I have a feeling others may disagree.

I realize that the PEK can produce all sorts of sounds that the P08 cannot, but the Prophet is nothing to be dismissive about, even when it comes to lead sounds. The analog richness of the latter over the former seems to be the consistent opinion of most users, but the issue of polyphony is certainly in favor of the P08. Yet, I certainly think - without owning one myself - that the PEK must be a fabulous and very unique instrument. I only wish there were some decent video demonstrations of it online.
