Moog Magazine?

Has Moog ever considered selling a monthly magazine? Bi monthly or quarterly would be great even.

It could have tips and tricks, recent and future gear, musician interviews, patch edits, restoration information, etc., etc.

I'd be very interested in this, and would definitely subscribe. I'm guessing it would be collectible one day.

I wouldn't want it to be jam packed full of useless stuff though, just Moog fan stuff. A thin, possible 40 to 80 page issue would suffice for me.

I would imagine that any effort like that would be in electronic form... it's really a major undertaking to produce printed copy at a regular interval for a small company. Of course, if it existed, I'd subscribe too!

Back in the 1970's, Moog offered a free booklet called 'Imoogination' that detailed many of the things you mentioned. Here's the ad for it that ran in Keyboard magazine:



'Imoogination' was a one-time only publication (not a monthly), and is no-doubt a collector's item today.

Back in the 'pre-internet' 1970's, a publication like 'Imoogination' was the only way to get information into the hands of Moog users and fans. Today, the internet is used to provide the bulk of this information, and it does so faster and cheaper than any publication can.

As I recall, a few years back, Moog sent out an e-mail Voyager "tips and tricks" a few times. After three or so "issues," there were no more. I saved them, though, and put them in a binder.

I suspect a Moog Magazine would take a tremendous amount of effort. I also suspect the actual audience for such a publication would be tiny. I think Moog Music should just focus on getting their MF-106 Step Sequencer to market.

I think the forum and website offer a more plausible possibility than a print magazine. However, it would require a full-time employee (or two) to come up with content. As mentioned above, Moogspace was an attempt in that direction, but people started flipping at the cost of membership. I think people would complain even if the content was updated regularly. There is a belief that all websites should be free, and it is that belief that is vexing the newspaper industry. The Moog E-zine should at least generate enough profit to pay for itself and its editors. One could say that the marketing value of the E-zine would generate more sales. However, I don't think Moog needs that. The name, reputation, and current website are more than adequate for marketing.

Really, my original thought was the collectibility of an actual paper bound Moog magazine. Something I could show off many years from now.

Kind of difficult to do that with a website since you can't hold that piece of history in your hands unless you print it out, even then it's still not an official Moog product.
