Model D Reissue ?

any chance the model d will be remade in it's full glory ?

I have always wanted one since the 1970s

Nice to see the Old School but it's got too many ins and outs
for me to utilize to it's full potential.

i kinda dont get the question .... the os was ther attempt to get ppl like you. but if you didnt want it then why not just get a model D ?? i got the os and love it also trust me ther is never enuff in's and out's.

I think Dr Moog himself said that theres enough old Minis going around that they didn't have to make a totally reissued version.

People probably would still say it didn't sound as good if they did.

If it was possible to recreate the Model D ENTIRELY TO SPEC, it would retail for the price of a Voyager + OS combined!

I doubt that Gibson does *exact* reissues.

I agree, if you want a Model D - Buy a model D.. I don't think anyone has ever regretted that purchase.

Its like the old console TVs.. It would cost a fortune to make one today.

And for that kinda cash people would buy an HD plasma screen - cuz they are probably cheaper to make than an old analog set, with cathode bulbs and all..

TV's are an entirely different animal, as it is still cheaper to buy a CRT than it is to repair a plasma, but all the other points are good and valid. Gibson DOES NOT in fact, do exact reissues. And this comes from a repair man I have befriended at Music-Go-Round who has seen people try to bring in Gibson reissues and sell them as vintage instruments.

Capacitors are different. Wires are different, as in, not cotton-insulated. Even the pickups in old Gibsons are different. All Gibson does, is reissue the neck, body, and finish, then charge $4000 for it. Even the finish isn't the same, because the old finish wasn't polyurethane-coated.

Same with the D. Capacitors are different. Discrete transistor technology would be almost impossible to do, just because of the hand-matched transistors required for it to work well. The company went out of business that made the pots for the original D, though Clarostats are a suitable replacement according to Kevin Lightner. They most likely aren't identical to the originals, though.

The companies that made the pots (there were two main suppliers), didn't go out of business.
One was acquired.
But they still make pots under their new name.

The sealed pots Minis used are still available today.
They just cost a lot.
The modwheel pot would probably be a special order too.

It doesn't really matter who made them anyways.
These types of pots adhered to a common mil-spec design protocol.
Whether Allen-Bradley, Ohmite, Clarostat, Bourns or whomever, the pots were very similar between brands.

again just buy one if you have wanted one for 30 years.
maybe try out owning any minimoog new or old - it'd be a novel experience for you.

why was the Old School canned anyways ?

I came here thinking maybe it was canned
to make room for a Model D Reissue.

How are those touch pad things doing on the Voyager ?
