Is there anybody out there who is wondering if Moog will ever produce real modular system s again as an alternative to the Voyager?

that would be very awesome if they did. it would be more awesome if they were cheap too, so people like me could have one.

If a new Moog modular would be cheap, it wouldn't sound or feel like a Moog at all. Qualtity is always a matter of using fine part for electronics and cabinets. And you can't compare a price of a Moog modular with a Doepfer or other modular.

Anyway, I don't think there is a big market for Moog Modulars these days. Only a few crazy people like me would buy it if they could afford it.

I'm all for a semi modular synth, like the Korg MS series.

Qwave, you are right, and I guess I just wasn't thinking when I posted that. I would also buy a modular if I could afford one. Also, I'm also all for an ms20 type synth. I think that would go over well.

But with so many incredible new modular systems around you should really explore the options of MOTM(synthtech), Synthesizers.com, Blacet, Modcan/Cyndrustries, Analog Systems, etc...

at moogce.com, they don't make real moog modules, although they do have a large inventory of real ones. they make replicas of the originals, and custom modules to fit the customer's needs. by far the best place to fufill your modular needs, although i've never actually bought something from them

Am I missing something? The Voyager is Semi modular like an MS-20. Add a VX-351 and CP-251 and you've got it. I guess you meant an all in one semi modular synth but if you already have a Voyager your next step should be to purchase the expanders.

By Modular I mean a system that allows you to choose the number of modules you need. If I want 6 VCOs but no touchpad, or I want 1 vco but 4 filters and a noise source, but no ringmodulator, that's a modular system. Or if I want 5 vcos and one of them acts as a lfo, and i can modulate the others with the ring mod until something explodes, that's a modular. a modular is something you can define and upgrade to your likings. I love my voyager like mad, but given the chance, I`d prefer to buy a synthesizer that allows me to dial in sounds using patch cords and doesn't have an operating system. but i' kinda uncertain about getting a non moog one although the ones out there kick butt no doubt (although i did hear some moans about doepfer...). It would just be fun to build a system from scratch with a basic vco-vca-lfo path and slowly upgrading it to your own tase and leave out stuff you know you'll never ever use. In my case, i would have left out the touchpad and have purchased another vco and a ringmod...

Hey, DBER!! You don't happen to own a Korg MS, do you? Anyway, this is for the general lot of you. Is the MS series compraised of hardwired components, like the ARP 2600 and EML 101? If so, that should make it playable on a grand level, even by a navice synthesist.

I do think http://www.synthesizers.com has two sections: standard production modular synths and custom modular systems. This includes all the components of the standard models and their MIDI keyboard controllers.

I've never played one, but neither have I played any Moog, save the Voyager. They may not be exactly the same as Moogs, but it is proof that someone out there is still producing custom voltage-controlled gear using authentic patch cords.

Make really great modular gear. Their VCO, and 440 LPF are two or the best sounding and stable ever made. They also have a MS 10/20 LPF/HPF clone. But beware! Their prices are going up this Monday(7/5/04) by 30%. I just dropped a nice order to them.

If you already have a analog synth with CV, I would look into some of these modules. I bought some of these after I got my Voyager. They have this great 2 SECOND analog delay with CV control over many of the knobs. If you didn't get a Moogerfooger 104 you must get this with your Voyager. I love to use the touchpad to control the delay time. I want to get another for stereo!

Also the Binary Zone is a blast as a sequencer, and subharmonic enhancer.

And the MiniWave for so many additional waveforms to use the Voyager's Ext. In. and making strange LFO patterens to modulate your Filter, Wave and VCA.

What would you say was the difference between "real ones" from inventory and onces that you call "replicas of the originals"?

I guess they are pretty much real, because they use pretty much the exact same electronics. What I mean is they are not made by Moog Music, although they are basically the same thing, even cosmetically.

I would love it, but it would be way out of my price league. I am trying to buy a Fenix Modular now, but they are hard to find. Could pay 4-6000 depending on condition.
