This guy on youtube send mt a message. I had demoed the ringmod and Freqbox and he assumed I was familliar with Jan Hammer. He asked me if he used a rongmod on his rhodes.

The first song he pointed me to was Vital Transformation. THat sounded like a Phaser on the RHodes.

THen he said he thought the song was on the album version of "noonward race" on the inner mounting flame.

He said that Jan used to bend the notes on the Rhodes.

It's definitely a ring modulator, probably a Maestro, which is what most of the Rhodes players used back then. It had its own oscillator for the modulation carrier, and a pitch slider you could whip around while playing, which is what Jan's doing here.

In the early days Jan used a frequency shifter to bend pitch on the rhodes.

Hey orangefunk you hit the nail right on the head...Tom Oberheim was a design engineer developing Maestro/early Oberheim products and Hammer was using his ringmod, then moogmusic got the job...http://www.wingspreadrecords.com/maestro_ps1_page.html
