Just testing out the Little Phatty's compatibility with my talkbox rig.
The LP puts out a monster saw wave signal, perfect!

Man nice!

How you you like the Banshee? Is that the I or II?

I coudl have gotten one in a pawn shop (exchanged the tubes of corse) for 79 or whatever I coudl have talked him down to.

I was thinking though that Id rather try to build my own from scratch and learn to solder in the process. I was going to get my own encloure and everything and do it really funky.

You got the Phatty sounding great!

Tell me about your Rhodes too!

Nice one, Swatkins!

I saw your live version also on youtube... sound quality is "camera in the audience" grade but the funk was smokin'. Excellent work!

Not intending to step on any toes but I found another band laying down some heavy Little Phatty talkbox funk here:

I made a talkbox last week! I fitted my old computer speaker into some 90mm diameter water piping and sealed the ends. The only problem right now is that the box isn't sound proof, so the sound of my synth comes out of the piping as well as the tube. So I need to find a way to make it come more prominently out of the tube.

That is exactly what happened to me, that and I used a tube way too small.

I think the computer speaker method really leaves a lot fo be desired.

Im thinking, why not be able to make it amplify itself?

Im thinking, why not just get a midrange horn driver, put it in an enclosure and then build an amp for it? that way you can just run your synth straight in just like the rocktron banshee?

THats what I want to do. I do't want to stary messing with taking an amp apart, I think that if you just knew how to solder and knew how to build an amp kit then it shoudl be easy.

I already have an illuminated switch and the input jacks, but thats the easy part. lllol.

Amp kits are available at Paia.com. Both monophonic and stereo. 1-30 Watts. Less than 50 dollars in most cases.

Thanks for all the kind comments, guys.

Yeah, the Rocktron Banshee is not the most "pro gear" of talkboxes, you can build a high quality yourself for cheap.
The Banshee is great at efficency: no need to power it with an external amp. I've been bringing mine to gigs for years and it's beat to bleep but still works. At some point I'd like to upgrade, but I'm pretty happy with the sound right now.

The Little Phatty sounds WAY better through the talkbox than my Juno 6 or my JP-8000, it's just that rich, golden saw wave tone that Moogs produce.

There are no effects on the synth in the video I originally posted. I made the backing beat in Ableton Live and then freestyle talkboxed into a microphone tracking in Ableton and then synced the video and audio.

Can't say enough good things about the talkbox. It's one of the most fun things I get to do in life. Even if you don't go for the Zapp/Roger California Love thing, it can still be an extremely expressive soloing tone.

Get a talkbox! Hook it up to your Moog! Make soulful music!
