What's your favorite "moog band"?

Post by DirtyLarry » Sun Mar 28, 2004 9:50 pm

It doesn't matter if they prominently feature moog's or just use it on a few tracks...but there's alot of bands out there that use 'em...
My favorite "moog band" is The Hippos!
What's yours?

Pink Floyd with their Minimoog (and their EMS VCS-3 of course).

See especially their albums from 1973-1981 (e.g. "Animals", "Wish you were here", and I think also "Dark Side of the Moon" - 'though I'm not sure about the latter).

The Locust

You want a band that is insane and uses a Moog? Check out The Locust. It is thrash metal with a Moog player. All of there songs are about 30 seconds to a minute long. They rock.

"btw- worst band I've ever seen in concert is probably Stereolab. those guys just can't play!"

That a very bold statement and is just plain wrong.
How many times have you seen Stereolab play? I've seen them about 8 times and will see them again on April 19th. Out of all those shows I've only seen them once where they weren't 100% but were still very good. Everyone has off nights and the band isn't always the same players each tour. They most definitely can play very well. what didn't you like about their performance? when was it?

Moog Band??

Post by EricK » Fri Apr 09, 2004 2:16 pm

Well this is my first post. I think that Herbie Hancock has to be one of my Favorite Synth players of all time. CHeck out the "Man Child" or "THrust" albums "headhunters" would qualify too. Funnky Stuff featuring a few moog's and lots of other stuff. "Sunlight" album uses one alot too.

I do not know if an individual counts as a "band",
But I believe my favorite Moog "band" is Wendy Carlos (or Walter).
Although, right along side Wendy is Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schultz.

"Switched on Bach" is a great album. Another re-released album that is great is "The First Seven Days" by Jan Hammer.

There are several others I would like to mention.
Bragging...um..."Gear" List:
Satellite(ehem), Memorymoog+, Minimoog Voyager. Juno 106x2, JD800, SH101, Prophecy, Poly800, Trinity Plus, K5000s, MP9500, K5, ESQ1x2, Chroma, Prophet5 3.3, Nord Lead, DX7, PT1, MT65...I can't remember the rest
