It is just the change to another style ("Flat Style by Ian Bradley"). It is still a phpBB based forum.

as long as it keeps working with legacy browsers, and doesn't get bogged down with a bunch of useless crap, I'm all for it

I like it, but does anybody find it ironic that the color scheme resembles an ARP synth?
