Not my MG 1.. Mine has a gorgeous MOOG logo on the front and back.. The only I've seen like it ! Thanks to Moog Music and Kevin Lightner !

No one laughed Money Mark off stage with his MG1...As far as I know at least !

Is the social stigma in regards to having the word "realistic" in relation to an instrument.....or rather the company name Realistic and what it produces being crappy?

Realistic was the brand name for stuff that Radio Shack put out.

I have a feeling that only an audience full of musician geeks would have even noticed. I don't think the general audience is that edumacated...

Yeah, I realize the whole radioshack brand.
But what I was speaking about was something like having a F1 race car with a "FAST" logo written on it or a hot chick with the words "SEXY" on her tshirt. Same thing with "REALISTIC" on your Synth.

Well it's sort of like Gibson import guitars branded Epiphone. OK for novice musicians, no serious guitar player would be seen with one.

Then again, my fave guitar is an Epiphone Genesis, now consider collectable in the vintage circles.

Then again, I'm not a serious guitar player

I can totally see what you guys are saying - if I look deep inside myself, I'm a bit of a gear snob (and I actually don't have to look to deeply!). However, do we really have to perpetuate this view? It's like when people start talking about Rogues and Sources and someone says, "but have you ever played a minimoog?"

Jimmy Nolan, one of James Brown's most well known guitarists, played a "Fresher" guitar - one of the cheesiest Japanese Fender knock-offs, with onboard effects no less! I remember being in high school and reading an interview with him in Guitar Player and thinking in disgust, "why doesn't he play a Fender?!!" But now I realize that it doesn't matter - in fact, I think it's cooler that he played a Fresher. Makoto Kawabata of Acid Mothers Temple will only play Freshers!

And I still think that only the musicians will notice. And not even all the musicians, just the geeks and snobs like myself!

John Lennon's main guitar was an Epiphone Casino. Paul and George had one too. The Epiphone Elite series has some very nice guitars. I love old japanese guitars. They have a funkiness and uniqueness you won't find by using the same old Les Paul to Marshall sounds. It's been done. I have quite a few guitars and my favourite and main guitar is Westone Thunder 1A. It's worth less than $200 but it has a mahogony body, active/pasive electronics, coil tap, and all around great quality electronics, workmanship, and style. Even when you open it up, everything is grounded and organized, and trust me, the guts of that thing are COMPLICATED.

I've got a question - when my MG-1 is plugged into my amp and everything is turned on, I get a static sound from the keyboard. Even when I'm not playing any notes the background white noise is present.
Everything else seems to work fine.

sounds broken to me... did you do the basic tests (different power outlet, instrument cable, amp)? Do you get the static from both the headphone out & the audio out on the back? make sure you have the "noise" slider all the way down and have the contour section switch on "contoured". i hope these suggestions arent insulting, just not sure how new you may be to your mg-1.

is the "bell tone" slider a ring mod?
does it even say bell tone, can't really see, i'm looking at a picture i found on the net
so what's the poly mode like? does it sound cool with effects?

yup belltone is ring mod. it's pretty cool. not very noticeable on the mg-1's sound... not as much as it is on other moogs.

i had a mod done to my mg-1 where i put a 3-way switch on the LFO rate. super-slow, stock, and super fast. the super fast creates a really cool ring mod effect.

No, I don't think the Rogue has the ring mod, nor does the prodigy. Just the MG-1. It's not a fancy ring mod, it's a simple circuit that uses a logic chip to do the sum and difference on the square wave. but it does have a nice sound...

I just got an MG-1 a few weeks back. Pretty damn cool. The polyphony isn't so bad when you slide the bell tone partway up, and have the oscs synced and the detune set at -2. I need to spend more time playing around with it... I've been trying to get my room cleaned up so I can have a nice "music workspace." I'm probably going to set the MG-1 on my old snare drum (someone's idea here

). It's better for leads than bass, at least compared to the Rogue.

And... what is up with this poor MG-1? It's been changing hands on ebay like a cheap hooker. Poor thing.
