Is anyone using any of the BBE sonic maximizers, either in stomp or rack form, on their Moog?

Sonic Maximizers are useful tools.

{They slightly time-shift high frequencies to arrive a little before the lower frequencies, which creates an aural illusion that the highs are louder, clearer, crisper, etc., without actually changing the amplitude of those high frequencies. Some models also create sub-octaves of the lowest frequencies to enhance the bass.}

Beware: You ears can adapt to these new sounds during extended listening such that, when you come back with fresh ears the next day, you'll be stunned at how shrill and/or boomy you've made your mix.

I'd put in a strong vote for the new Boss RV-6 Reverb:

A lot of lower-cost stomp box reverbs aren't beautiful enough for synths, but this one is stunning.

Play a gently-filtered Sawtooth into its MODULATE setting with the TONE and TIME cranked and you get instant Blade Runner.

(Not "kinda' like Blade Runner", but "Damn, that's it!")

see, the doubts I have about guitar pedals on synths relate to the absolutely awful sound I got from the EHX small clone when connected to my LP Tribute. You have to lower the volume a great deal, and then the chorus effect is very weak and distorted nonetheless. It was a very negative experience. But hey, my wife got hooked up with a pedal for her guitar in the process! :mrgreen:

I have successfully used the following effects pedals with my Sub 37;

Roland RE20
Pigtronix Echolution 2
Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress
Electro Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi Deluxe
MXR 70's Distortion

All work extremely well and make for some awesome effects.

My experience:

- Already quoted RE20, EHX Cathedral and DMMTT, various MoogerFoogers work well (I've tried all but 101, 104SD/MSD and original 104).
- Tech 21 character series VT Bass and Blonde work well with a low level setting : give a great rock'n'roll character :)
- SubDecay Quasar phaser and ProCo RAT work well, at least on a Clavia G2.
- MiniFooger Drive works well
- EHX POG2 works well

Been using a BBE Sonic Stomp for years with the Voyager. Here' a brief write-up I did for KnobTweak back in the day:

Few more I use regularly:

MF-Delay works very well on the Slim and Sub37. A CV LFO from the MicroBrute creates modulated delays. Yea!

MF-Trem enjoys receiving an ENV CV signal from the MicroBrute to create fast-into-slow tremolo effects.

thank you all for the extra references. they've been added to the original post. :mrgreen:

the only ones not added are the moogerfoogers recently mentioned. they're included in the first entry of the original post.

@C7SUS: are you recommending, or warning against, the Foxrox TZF2?

TZF2 is a great pedal. The coolest thing I have got it to do with the Voyager so far is envelope tape warble. Set TZF2 envelope control to 10-11 o' clock and use patches with medium to long envelopes. You can dial the envelope control on the TZF2 so it gets kind of pushed and pulled between oscillator and envelope control of the delay time. Can be very subtle up to very detuned. Envelope, Depth, and Manual settings on the TZF2 are very interactive. It sounds great with guitar too.
